Quantum computers won't break Bitcoin mining anytime soon.
New research shows a Grover-based quantum miner at today's difficulty would need ~10²⁵ watts, nearly Kardashev Type II and the energy output of a star.
SHA-256 proof-of-work is safe.

Getting your first BTQ just got frictionless.
The testnet faucet is live at https://t.co/bID2arL0FK
How it works:
1. Enter your BTQ testnet address: mining starts instantly, with hash rate and difficulty visible in real time
2. Accrue BTQ at 0.01 per minute, then claim once you hit the minimum
3. Transaction confirms in 1–2 minutes on the explorer
The faucet is rate-limited by compute, not by identity. Anyone with a browser can participate.
You'd need the energy of a star to quantum mine Bitcoin at today's difficulty.
Validates our use of SHA-256 mining and focus on post-quantum digital signature algorithms.
🚨 HARD FORK SCHEDULED: BLOCK 300,000
Higher than expected hash rate growth caused the original hard fork block to be reached ahead of schedule. v0.3.2 implements the same upgrades as v0.3.1 with the fork target reset to block 300,000.
This is a mandatory update. To upgrade:
1. Download the v0.3.2 release: https://t.co/gaJz9RPWXg
2. Replace your btqd and btq-cli binaries
3. Restart your node before block 300,000
What you need to do:
1. Download the update: https://t.co/r3RJTzAX0R
2. Update before block 270,000 or else your node will fall of the chain
3. Restart your node/miner
If you miss the fork block, you'll need to re-sync from scratch.
🚨 HARD FORK SCHEDULED (BLOCK 270,000)
We are releasing a hard fork on testnet to fix difficulty re-targeting at variable hash rates and a mining pool fee miscalculation.
Nodes must update their software before block 270,000.
🚨 GOOGLE VALIDATES URGENT RESPONSE TO SECURING BITCOIN FROM QUANTUM THREAT 🚨
Today Google announced major progress towards breaking cryptography using quantum computers. They show that Shor's algorithm can crack ECDSA using 1,200 to 1,450 logical qubits.
Timelines continue to shrink as this represents another 20-fold reduction in the number of qubits required to break the fundamental cryptography underlying Bitcoin.
"This is a continuation of a long history of gradual optimization in compiling quantum algorithms to fault-tolerant circuits."
Bitcoin Quantum is now in V3 of testnet. It is the only concerted effort to re-build Bitcoin for a quantum era.
Join us in building a quantum-safe future.
Quantum frontiers may be closer than they appear, according to Google.
If Google is setting a timeline for post-quantum cryptography migration to 2029, why wouldn't Bitcoin?
Bitcoin Quantum is the only Bitcoin-related protocol taking measurable steps toward quantum security, starting with the deployment of BIP 360.
