The US thinks they can out grow their deficit, they can't and not without Canada.

Let me to explain.

The US Capex and manufacturing growth is mainly driven by computation demand.

It has a decade long wait for grid connectivity, companies have years wait for components to build their own energy, and it can't make enough semiconductors and chips domestically. That's before we get into what the demand the robotics and new military tech sectors will demand.

Canada is basically a resource colony that subsidises the US with energy and has all the critical minerals for North America to be self sufficient. Canada is too dumb to build out value added manufacturing because it thinks it can change the weather with carbon tax.

This gives the opportunity for America not only to have a reliable continous supply of everything it needs to feed its economic machine in the cheapest way possible but also build whole industries on top in the supply chain and value added manufacturing that will create thousands of jobs and hundreds of billions in new economic activity.

However, Canada needs to build its value added manufacturing to accelerate movement towards new sector development, and again, cheaper, for even a stronger North America.

The US should want to remove all friction and costs from this process. It can't outgrow deficits by adding taxes, and unnecessary geopolitical risk.

Therefore, instead of trying to focus on squeezing pennies out of Canada at the expense of growth and dollars, it needs to get rid of the pain points and integrate the North American market and economies even closer. Something Canada wants to do as well btw.
