Rep. Stephen F. Lynch

Official account. Proudly serving the 8th Congressional District of Massachusetts.

[Rep. Stephen F. Lynch @RepStephenLynch]

Earlier this week we were alerted to the possibility that unknown individuals were mailing certain suspicious items to various Congressional offices across the country.

Late this morning, an envelope matching that description was received in our Brockton office, seemingly containing an unknown substance.

In accordance with safe mail handling protocol, the envelope was not opened and our staff immediately notified authorities.

In extremely short time, the Brockton Police Bomb squad, Brockton Fire Dept. Hazmat team,
Mass. State Police, the Boston office of the FBI and the U.S. Postal Inspector investigators responded to the scene, secured the building and conducted a preliminary threat assessment.

Thankfully the on-site findings revealed no evidence of contamination or hazardous threat and the envelope has been removed from the premises for further laboratory analysis.

Our Congressional offices have been cleared to re-open on Monday and all other offices and businesses located at 37 Belmont Street in Brockton have been cleared to resume weekend operations.

For the time being all correspondence mailed to our Massachusetts offices in Boston, Brockton and Quincy will now be rerouted through our Washington DC office where it will undergo full Capitol complex screening procedures before being handled.

I am deeply grateful to the Brockton Police and Fire Department personnel, our State Police, the U.S. Postal Inspector and Boston Office of the FBI for their rapid and thorough response and to the U.S. Capitol Police and House Sgt. at Arms for their guidance in addressing this threat.

Smart investments in transportation make a real difference for our communities! We broke ground on the Logan Express Remote Terminal in Braintree, the first permanent remote terminal in the United States.

This project will create a “remote terminal” for Delta and JetBlue passengers in Braintree that will allow passengers to have their baggage screened and complete the entire airport security process before they arrive at Logan Airport, with bus drop-off post-security, enabling them to proceed directly to the departure gate. This Union-built facility will give South Shore residents a convenient way to access Logan Airport while supporting local workers and businesses.

I’m proud to have worked alongside @MassGovernor, @townofbraintree Mayor Erin Joyce, @Massport CEO Rich Davey, @MBTA Secretary Phil Eng, Senators Bill Driscoll and John Keenan, and Representative Mark Cusack for making this happen. And special thanks to Pat Mulkerrin of the Quincy/South Shore Building Trades and Lou Antonellis of @IBEW103 and the skilled men and women who actually make these projects possible.

October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

According to the American Cancer Society, women in good health who are 45 or older, should get screened every year with a mammogram. For more information, visit https://t.co/ezMowFzkim.

Each year, I have the honor to nominate a select group of young men and women from the 8th Congressional District to one of our nation’s prestigious military Service Academies.

Applications are due by November 1, 2026.

I stand with MGB nurses and Home Care clinicians!

I urged @MassGenBrigham leadership to honor their commitment to patient safety by returning to the negotiating table in good faith and reaching a fair contract with @MassNurses.

Our dedicated nurses deserve a contract that reflects the world-class care they provide to our communities. Nurses are always there for us, and I am proud to stand in solidarity with them!

[Rep. Stephen F. Lynch @RepStephenLynch]

When the @USPS arbitrarily closes local post offices without meaningful public input, our local communities are left with serious service disruptions, and our dedicated postal workers end up with unmanageable workloads and costlier delivery routes.

We are demanding that the Postal Service immediately stop its proposed post office closures in Boston and other communities across Massachusetts and instead hold public hearings to allow any impacted residents an opportunity to voice their concerns about degradations in mail service.

The statutory mission of the United States Postal Service is to serve every American community nationwide and deliver the mail to every home and business six days a week. It should stay that way!

The Trump Administration has announced a plan to hijack the National Institutes of Health grant-making process by handing research funding decisions to a political panel that will be authorized to veto grants that don’t align with Trump’s political agenda.

@NIH invests nearly $40 billion annually in grants and other federally funded projects to treat and cure cancer, heart disease, infectious and immune diseases, neurological disorders, and other critical health conditions.

On the House Democratic Litigation Task Force, we’ll keep fighting against any attempt by President Trump or OMB Director Russell Vought to interfere in NIH’s groundbreaking work to protect the health of every American.

Very grateful to @townofbraintree Mayor Erin Joyce for hosting our annual “Service Academy Day” at East Middle School in Braintree where dozens of families and aspiring candidates to The U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, The Air Force Academy and others were able to speak with representatives from all the Academies and speak with parents of past nominees as well as current attendees.

We are especially thankful for the representatives from the @NavalAcademy, @WestPoint_USMA, United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy, who provided much valuable information and made the day a success!

We are also grateful and humbled by the many young people who attended with a genuine interest in serving our Country!

Spectacular weather for Hull’s Endless Summer Waterfront Festival on Nantasket Beach!

Sincere thanks to the Nantasket Chamber of Commerce, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, Hull Pride, all the vendors, musicians, Hull’s First Responders, Craig Wolf, and Members of the Hull Selectboard for your warm hospitality.

An excellent way to wrap up the Summer season! ☀️

Great to join with my sisters and brothers in the @AFGENational Employees Town Hall!

President Trump has unlawfully abolished AFGE’s collective bargaining rights and wrongfully terminated EPA employees for speaking out against Trump’s harmful environmental policy changes (aka “doing their jobs”).

Democrats on the @OversightDems and our Litigation Task Force stand with AFGE in this fight!

Our doctors and nurses are the backbone of our community. I visited @TuftsMedicalCtr to discuss the challenges facing our local hospitals as a result of President Trump’s cuts to Medicaid and Medicare.

We toured the Emergency Department, Transplant Center, and Atrium 3 Pharmacy and saw firsthand the dedicated work being done every day to provide patients with high-quality care.

Medicaid and Medicare are lifelines for our hospitals, Community Health Centers, seniors, families, and patients across Massachusetts. I will continue to fight to repeal the provisions of Trump’s so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OB3) which will force the closure of many community hospitals and health centers. We need to protect these critical programs and ensure our health care providers have the resources they need to care for our communities.

[Tufts Medical Center @TuftsMedicalCtr]

Thank you to @RepStephenLynch for visiting us today to see firsthand how we’re helping our patients live their best lives through leading clinical care, research and innovation. The Congressman met with our transplant team and toured our Emergency Department and Pharmacy.

[Oversight Dems @OversightDems]

Yes, you heard @RepStephenLynch right: Trump has made $1.4 BILLION from his crypto businesses as president. While Americans struggle to pay their bills, Donald Trump and his children rake in cash. Oversight Dems refuse to let this corruption continue.

[Rep. Stephen F. Lynch @RepStephenLynch]

President Trump must use the State Visit with President Xi Jinping to demand the release of my constituent, Dr. Youlin Chen, and Min Zin, two U.S. citizens currently unlawfully detained by the Chinese government.

@SenMarkey and I introduced a bipartisan Congressional Resolution condemning China’s arbitrary practice of detaining U.S. citizens based on spurious claims and demanding that the Administration make every effort to ensure their safe return.

Dr. Chen and Min Zin are respected scholars and academics who were engaging in academic exchanges.  They are being subject to repeated interrogations, deplorable conditions, and inadequate medical care.  Their families are not allowed to speak to them, and they have had limited access, if any, to legal counsel.  This is unacceptable and they must be released.

More than 20 people, including several American citizens and other people who are lawfully present in the United States and engaged in the legal immigration process, have been shot during rogue federal immigration enforcement operations since President Trump took office in 2025.

The recent shooting of Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a DoorDash delivery driver, in Austin, Texas, during a violent ICE encounter is yet another cruel demonstration of how this agency is out of control and running roughshod over civil rights and due process. Early reports indicate that the ICE agent was a recent recruit who failed or refused to utilize his body camera during the incident. Deeply troubling as well, Mr. Graces Perez continues to be denied proper medical care to remove the ICE agent’s bullet that remains lodged in his back.

I join with my @OversightDems colleagues to demand a full and independent investigation free from obstruction by the Trump Administration. Congress must intervene to restrain and transform ICE to remove it from our communities, enforce body camera requirements, adopt reasonable use of force standards, and commit to other major reforms to hold it accountable to the American people. I will continue to withhold all ICE funding until this rogue agency complies with the law.

Union Strong!

It was an honor to join our hardworking Nurses and clinicians from @MassNurses on the picket line this morning to demand that Mass General/Brigham Hospital return to the bargaining table and reach a fair and equitable contract with the MNA. My thanks to @RepRichardNeal, @EdforBoston, Democratic nominee for Congress @dank, and MNA leadership for fighting for affordable and reliable health care for all.

Our nurses and clinicians are the heart and soul of our healthcare system - they are always there for us, and I’m proud to stand in solidarity with them!

[MNA @MassNurses]

Thank you @repstephenlynch @RepRichardNeal, @GBLCBoston @1199mass @EdforBoston and everyone else who is supporting @MassGenBrigham nurses and clinicians fighting to protect their patients from greedy billionaire MGB board members.

The First Amendment guarantees a free and open press as a pillar of American democracy and prohibits the government from retaliating against journalists for exercising their fundamental right to report the news to the American people.

As a member of the House Democratic Litigation Task Force, I stand with @CNN, @MSNOWNews, and @politico, who just filed suit to challenge President Trump’s unconstitutional ban barring these news organizations from the White House.
