This of course is bullshit. The vast majority of black women are either on welfare or working for the government. Virtually none of the pioneers, inventors, entrepreneurs, and business leaders who built this country were black women. And that still holds true today. They are in no sense of the term “the backbone” of our economy. A hugely disproportionate percentage of them can’t even support themselves, much less hold the entire nation on their shoulders.

Why Tech Workers Fighting Visas Cannot Afford to Dismiss Illegal Immigration

Six arguments, one labor market, and the illegal labor that does not file an LCA

Abstract:
Tech workers have a clean target in the H-1B system because the government publishes the filings. That visibility is useful and incomplete. Unauthorized labor is larger, harder to count, and already inside industries that look corporate on a W-2. This brief lays out six reasons visa-focused workers should treat illegal immigration as a first-order problem: one labor market, housing and schools, shared document fraud, political headcount, the collapse of high-trust work, and a hidden office pipeline that never appears in lottery data. The strongest claim is the last one. Visas have a database. Illegal office labor has a stolen Social Security number and an I-9 a manager certified as genuine.

Introduction
H-1B is measurable. In fiscal year 2024, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services approved 399,395 H-1B petitions. Seventy-one percent of those beneficiaries were born in India (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, 2025). Engineers can name the vendors, pull Labor Condition Applications, and argue about wages. Unauthorized presence does not come with that dashboard.

Pew Research Center estimated 14 million unauthorized immigrants in the United States in 2023, with 9.7 million in the workforce, 5.6 percent of all U.S. workers (Passel and Krogstad, 2025). Professional and business services, the industry bucket that includes staffing, contractors, and back-office work next to engineers, ran about 7 percent unauthorized in 2023 (Passel and Krogstad, 2025).
Treat that 14 million figure as real. At that scale the implication for American tech labor is horrific. No exaggeration.

Set aside agriculture and construction for a moment. Those still hurt tech workers. That is another post.
The six arguments below are not separate crusades. They are one system viewed from the desk of a worker who already knows the visa fight and has been told the other fight is someone else's problem.

Too many comments read: I don't care about illegals. That is ignorance on display.

Here is why.

The Six Arguments
The labor pool is one market

Visa fights decide who sits in the cube. Illegal hiring decides what the floor under that cube costs. Unauthorized workers were 15 percent of construction and 14 percent of agriculture in 2023, and 8 percent of leisure and hospitality (Passel and Krogstad, 2025). Those trades set local wages, housing starts, food prices, and logistics costs in the same metros that absorbed H-1B growth. Employers who can tap an unauthorized pool do not compete as hard for legal labor anywhere on the wage ladder. Calling the result a labor shortage is a slogan. It is a suppressed reservation wage. A tech worker who only audits the lottery is measuring the labeled pipe and ignoring the unlabeled one that still moves the cost of living.

Housing and schools are not a side issue

Nominal tech pay looks high until rent, property tax, classroom size, and emergency-room wait times eat it. Unauthorized households concentrate in the same states that already run large Indian and other visa populations: California, Texas, New Jersey, and similar hubs (Passel and Krogstad, 2025; Ward and Batalova, 2026). School districts enroll first and match immigration files later, if they match them at all. A B-2 visitor is not authorized to use public K-12 as a regular student under federal rules, yet local practice often treats presence as residency (Immigration and Nationality Act section 214(m)). Visa reform that leaves interior status unenforced does not save the school or the starter home. This rearranges who gets the scarce seat.

Status fraud is the same picture

Overstaying a tourist visa, working after a petition dies, using a stolen Social Security number, and sitting on a B-2 while relatives work are not a different moral category from H-1B abuse. They are the same failure: nobody matches the body to the file. Form I-9 requires the employer to examine documents and certify, under penalty of law, that they appear genuine and relate to the person (8 U.S.C. section 1324a). Repeated I-9 failure, identity theft on a payroll, and vendor layers that hide the worker are how both the staffing firm and the cash crew stay in business.

ICE worksite cases keep finding stolen numbers used for wages and benefits (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 2025; U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 2026). If the shop is never reported, neither lane to these jobs gets cut.

Politics follows headcount, not job titles

Sanctuary rules, benefit access, driver's licenses, and census apportionment are driven by the large unauthorized population, not by the annual H-1B cap. Pew's 14 million figure for 2023, with about 6 million holding some temporary protection and about 8 million holding none, is a political mass (Passel and Krogstad, 2025). ICE manpower is finite. A force on the order of 22,000 agents cannot do worksite, street, and jail detainers at once. The cheap-labor lobby uses both the visa statute and the unenforced interior to exploit the resource for profit. Split the issue into "skilled good, illegal other" and the same donors keep E-Verify voluntary and interior enforcement thin. Tech workers still pay the coalition that protects both pipelines.

High-trust work dies when the surrounding county is low-trust

Engineering assumes contracts, credentials, and a common language in the meeting. A county that will not remove a known unauthorized crime family, or a hospital that staffs people who cannot communicate a consent, is not a county that stays good at intellectual property and quality control. Multi-generational American workers, including Hispanic families with roots older than living memory, are not the problem. The problem is a system that treats status as optional and undeserved while expecting the office to remain high-trust. You cannot run a specialty-occupation economy on I-9 theater and hope the schools, jails, and clinics stay someone else's responsibility.

The hidden corporate path for illegal employees is larger in uncertainty than the lottery

H-1B is apparent to us because Labor Condition Applications and petition counts are public. Unauthorized corporate labor does not file an LCA. It files an I-9 with a stolen number that belongs to a citizen, a child, or a dead account, or it keeps a badge after OPT or H-1B status expires. The Social Security Administration has long documented name-number mismatches and SSN misuse by noncitizens not authorized to work (Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General, 2004). Later estimates put millions of unauthorized workers on valid or borrowed numbers in some years, with the Earnings Suspense File holding unmatched wages at enormous scale.

ICE's Glenn Valley Foods operation found about 70 illegal aliens using stolen identities and more than 100 citizen victims whose prescriptions, disability checks, taxes, and licenses were wrecked (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 2025). A Kentucky window plant produced indictments for stolen numbers on I-9s (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 2026). From the next desk that person looks like a coworker. From USCIS they are out of status. There is no public headcount of unauthorized workers in software, help desk, or vendor IT. That gap is the point. Absence of a lottery table is not absence of bodies.

The Strongest Argument**

The strongest argument is not that every engineer should stop caring about H-1B. The strongest argument is that H-1B is just one labeled slice of a substitution system made up of many others, and the unlabeled slice sits in the same buildings.

A lottery you can screenshot will always attract more heat than a stolen SSN on a W-2. That is a measurement error, not a conclusion about harm.

Most do not realize it, but these illegal aliens are in tech and management jobs. By the numbers which are certainly understated... millions of them- they just aren't filing their job or foreign college on a register that we can see but they are web developers, programmers, MBA, and scientists all the same. There is almost no occupation untaught in a foreign country that hasn't been found to be employed in the USA illegally.

Professional and business services already carried a 7 percent unauthorized share in 2023 (Passel and Krogstad, 2025). Identity-theft worksite cases prove the method for getting onto formal payroll. Status rot (overstay, lapsed petition, B-2 plus remote work) proves the method for staying off the H-1B list while keeping the badge. Employers certify documents. Vendors hide the headcount. Citizens absorb the tax and credit damage when the number was stolen, with no voice to make it public. Tech workers who treat illegal presence as a blue-collar story are volunteering to miss the massive number of jobs that are theirs.

If the standard is "show me the LCA," the unauthorized office worker will always win the argument by disappearing. The correct standard is whether the person is authorized to work. That question belongs to ICE, USCIS, and the Department of Labor, and it only gets asked when someone reports what they saw.

Summation
What this brief established is simple. Visa abuse is real, documented, and concentrated. The visa system itself is abusive to our unemployed degreed labor. It attracts the majority of attention.

This is hard to accept but has to be understood.

Unauthorized presence is larger, less visible, and already inside industries that are not farms. One labor market means construction and hospitality wages still move the cost of living for engineers. Imagine if competition for employees pushed wages to 30 dollars per hour to match inflation. Where would an engineering salary lie? Document fraud and weak I-9s are all in the same bucket.

Political power tracks bodies, not job codes, and they profit off the capital with Chamber of Commerce money greasing the cheap-labor transactions that sell out our prosperity.

High-trust work cannot be isolated from the country that refuses to enforce status. The hidden corporate pipeline is the piece visa activists are most likely to miss.

The practical implication is not to abandon H-1B reform. It is to stop treating interior enforcement as a lower-class errand. Report unauthorized hiring. Demand E-Verify with teeth. Treat overstay and stolen-identity payroll as illegal employment, because that is what the statute already says. The laws are there and we should push for enforcement of every single statute. The harm is generational and lowers the potential of our society through a cash-out dilution. A specialty-occupation workforce that only polices the lottery will keep losing to the underground illegal system that never files one.

When Belarus started pushing migrants at its border in 2021, Poland didn't let them in and then pay for their housing, food, and healthcare like so many Western countries do. Instead, it built a steel wall more than 100 miles long and put soldiers on it.

John Cleese is a British comedy legend, famous for satirising the British establishment and Christianity with his film “The Life Of Brian”. People have often said, “Well, if you’re going to make fun of Christianity, why don’t you make fun of Islam?” And John Cleese has said, “Well, because we’d be killed.”

And so it has come to pass: John Cleese has been critical of Islam, and as a result, has been the subject of a rather intimidating campaign by Islamists.

There’s a long list of Islamists using the threat of violence being to silence people in Britain.

The film “Lady of Heaven” offended Muslims in Sheffield, who forced a cinema to withdraw it by forming a huge angry mob which could have been straight out of Life of Brian. The authorities took no action against the mob; the entire chain pulled the film, rewarding the mob tactic.

When an autistic 14-year-old schoolboy in Wakefield accidentally scuffed a Koran, his mother was intimidated into groveling in front of a mob of angry Muslims. On behalf of her son, she even put on a headscarf to do so. This all happened with the acquiescence of the British authorities.

And a teacher at the grammar school in Batley, in Yorkshire, has been in hiding for five years, ever since he showed an image of the Prophet Mohammad. The Batley Grammar teacher is right to be nervous. In 2020, French school teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded after showing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad during a civics class on freedom of expression.

This behaviour has decades-long roots. In the 1980s, novelist Salmon Rushdie had an official fatwa issued against him for his novel The Satanic Verses. Rushdie lived under the threat of Islamist violence for about 40 years until finally a Muslim jumped onto the stage and brutally attacked him, stabbing him several times and nearly killing him, blinding him in one eye.

Hey, never let it be said that Islamists don’t hold a grudge.

At the time, the establishment equivocated and Labour MPs even condemned Rushdie, siding with the mob to hoover up their votes. As the number of Islamists in Britain grows, and the establishment continues its cowardly acquiescence, expect this violence and intimidation to get worse.

Which was: continuous military intervention all over the world. Starting with the bombing of Yugoslavia. You were the original neoconservative. Madeline Albright used "open society" phrasing in communicating your foreign policy documents. You are a part of the long string of failures of nation-building in the name of democracy, the Western interventions that resulted in millions of mass migrants overwhelming our borders, artificial famines, and us building the infrastructure that enabled China to take over the Africa continent and extract African resources for themselves.

But. Most of all. Those of us -- and there are a good deal many of us -- who have been ruined by lawfare. @GenFlynn sacrificed everything. @JeffClarkUS has had his life ruined and is still rebuilding. At the end of the day, only one President has been the subject of repeated assassination attempts and eighty-plus indictments - and it's President Trump. Not anyone in your orbit.

Practice gratitude and read Scripture to fortify your mind and to ground yourself in what’s important. That’s how you stay sane, engaged, and not black pilled.

Obviously I’m not happy of every minute of every single day. Obviously nothing is ever perfect. But when I go to sleep at night, I feel peace and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all the blessings in my life.

If there was one thing I could “influence” people to do that would be to make gratitude a daily spiritual discipline, along with Scripture and prayer. One hour out of your day. That’s it. One hour to reflect and praise God. One hour to center yourself in things that are good, beautiful, and true. In addition to church.

Nothing will change. Same house. Weight. Amount of money. Government. World. But different you and that changes everything else.

Now if my husband told me to get in the kitchen I would be pissed, I actually care about what he thinks about me. But he would never do that because he doesn’t need to make himself feel more masculine by demeaning women. That’s probably why I cook (don’t enjoy it and suck at it I am working on it though) and clean and take care (those two I love and am very good at) of my family.

Ladies, marry a man who doesn’t have low testosterone beta syndrome and can actually lead your family, so you will want to take care of him.

We’re on a road trip, and my 12 year old son brought his Bible.

I asked him if he read it everyday. He looked at me funny, like I’d asked if water was wet, and said “yes!”

He then proceeded to tell me he reads a chapter in the Old Testament and New Testament everyday. He’s finished 6 books so far.

This is a child who once asked us “who’s Jesus?” when he was 4 years old, because we weren’t saved then.
