The bronze by Mark English is the first major championship medal for coach @FeidhlimKelly of @dublintrackclub - who lives, breathes and will die by this sport like few others.
No one has done more to raise standards in recent years.
Here's his current status

@Cathal_Dennehy Well if I were the athlete I’d be checking to see when it was last calibrated. Were there other dqs in the same lane? It’s definitely harder for the organiser but giving an appeal after gives some hope if there’s an error.
For me the reaction times in the 100m were oddly quick.
@davehooperSSNS I believe it was to have a cohesive hierarchy of competitions and strengthen participation at big meets. As to why a national federation feels the need to add their own layer to it is what makes no sense to me.
@Cathal_Dennehy Holding camps are usually optional and if a federation couldn’t pay for it let the athlete decide.
Seems v harsh on McCann but even for an unsponsored athlete, will missing the champs help them get a contract? Does position at champs not determine higher level grants?
@Cathal_Dennehy Is the cost not just flights as don’t hosts usually carry the cost of hotels? Consistency is almost impossible against the myriad disciplines of athletics so federations should just pick everyone eligible. Otherwise is it not a restraint of trade?
@Ploukyroiduciel I’d be pretty sure it’s correct as it is the official Olympics start list. My guess is that French mistake is their women’s record listed by accident.
In an Olympics of amazing times, this one stands out for me. The Netherlands stunning 4x400m silver medal was a 5.19s improvement on their national record before Tokyo. 🤯
Sport is an equal-opportunity hater, and no, you often don't get out of it what you out into it.
Column on the cruelty of the Olympic stage. https://t.co/F53KhuXC3e
"We had a lot of ups and downs, but that’s my dawg. I really do thank him."
Piece on Dublin's John Coghlan, who guided Puerto Rico's @JCamachoQuinn to Olympic gold yesterday.
Great to see his coaching talent appreciated, albeit far from home.

Big congrats to my old coach John Coghlan! A man who has given so much to athletics in Ireland over the years. How many Irish people ever have coached a track gold medal!
Five years ago @JCamachoQuinn smashed a hurdle in Rio and went home devastated. Now she's the Olympic champion.
For Irish folk, there's a link here too: she's coached by John Coghlan, who until last year was training Meath GAA players.

8th in an Olympic final is incredible. Well done to all involved💪.
No reason why Ireland can’t have men’s and women’s 4x400m at all the major champs going forward, the depth is there!
That's a sensational run by the Irish mixed 4x400m - 3:12.88 to give themselves a great shot at the final as the quickest non-automatic spot.
Takes four seconds off the national record. They could do no more.

@Joe_Shrimpton @dhh For sure. The point being made is that base capacity somehow reduced over 14 years, which is amazing considering the push to greater information capture like 4K video, camera sensors etc. Not to mention that the 2007 HD was upgradable!
