On the same week that America turns 250 years old, the Mariana Minerals team is celebrating a critical milestone that moves the US one step closer to copper supply independence.

This week, Mariana Copper One began producing refined copper cathode from domestically-sourced copper scrap, successfully integrating stage 1 of copper scrap processing into our existing solvent extraction and electrowinning facility. This milestone marks the start of our aggressive ramp to 50ktpa of refined copper production at Copper One, from a mix of mined and scrap feedstocks.

A huge thanks to the Mariana team that made this possible, less than 2 months after restarting mining operations at Copper One!

The United States has always been at its best when it builds, and we're proud to be doing our part to help restore US industrial independence.

There’s a lot of talk about critical minerals right now, but what does mineral criticality actually mean?

It comes down to two things:
• Importance to the economy
• Risk to the mineral's supply chain

A mineral isn’t critical just because it’s widely used. If supply is stable and diversified, risk is low.

But when supply is concentrated, geopolitically exposed, or hard to replace, things change quickly.

That’s why critical minerals are getting so much attention. They sit at the center of advanced manufacturing, energy storage, electrified transport, electronics, AI infrastructure, aerospace, and defense - while also facing real supply risks. The chart below shows where those risks are most concentrated globally.

If we’re going to talk about critical minerals, we should start with a clear definition.
