The #WinGS totals for the #LDV yesterday inc. 19,000 Black-headed Gulls, 9000 Common, 540 Herring, 34 Greater Black-backed and 1 Lesser Black-backed, as well as a first-winter Caspian and 4 Mediterranean (2 adults and 2 first-winters) @YorkBirding

Many thanks to everyone involved in the #LDV who helped collect the #WinGS data yesterday for the @_BTO. A total of 28,568 gulls were recorded (down on the previous week due to the recent freezing conditions/ice cover displacing some birds to other areas).

During the @WeBS_UK count in the #LDV at the weekend, we also managed to log c400 Pink-footed Geese, 8000 Wigeon, 6400 Teal, 3600 Lapwing and 500 Dunlin, with the first Curlew now starting to build-up with a total of 19 recorded @YorkBirding

Extensive flooding made the @WeBS_UK count at the weekend rather challenging and suppressed numbers of some species, but we still managed a respectable 17,387 wildfowl, 4554 waders & 30,130 gulls. Highlights inc. 168 Whooper Swans, Smew, 8 Scaup, 70 Pochard & 6 Barnacle Geese.
