We need a bit more shame.

People used to avoid certain self-interested behaviors to avoid shame, private and public. Law and customs assumed this.

Now, 38% of Stanford students claim to be disabled. 40% of young women (under 35) claim mental illness, and SSI disability payments have gone up 400% in a single generation.

It isn't good for anyone, least of all people who are actually disabled, when everyone looks the other way as friends and family and peers con the system with a level of shamelessness no architect of our safety net ever imagined could be possible in America. When everyone is disabled, nobody is.

It saw them through a screen door and pushed the door open to get out.

A coalition of labor unions and nonprofit groups has begun collecting signatures for a new countywide ballot measure that would raise the sales tax by a half-cent on nearly everything you buy. If passed, it’s expected to generate about $360 million in its very first year — paid for by working families, seniors, and small businesses every time they check out at the store.

This tax would be permanent. And the spending language gives politicians wide discretion over where the money goes, with no binding guarantees that it will actually solve the problems being used to justify the tax.

All of this is happening while families are already being squeezed from every direction.

Parking fees are being added at Balboa Park.
Trash collection fees have risen.
Electricity prices continue to climb.
Housing costs remain out of reach for too many families.

And yet the same politicians who talk about affordability are now pushing for another tax instead of fixing what’s broken inside government.

San Diegans are not asking for more government.

They’re asking for accountability.
They’re asking for efficiency.
They’re asking for leaders who understand that every new tax comes directly out of a family’s grocery budget, rent payment, or college savings.

This is a pivotal moment for our region.

Anyone who thinks the California government has a revenue problem is mathematically illiterate or part of the fraud.

California does not have a revenue problem. It has a spending problem. Politicians and their henchmen stealing tens of billions of dollars PER YEAR from our pockets.

Ask yourself why they can’t pass an audit! Ask yourself why they change the reporting rules on your pension! Do you start to see a pattern?

Endless reams of money keep falling through the cracks with no accountability into the waiting hands of thieves.

When is enough, enough?

California will soon start to lose its grip on being the most vibrant state in America. The billionaires will leave. The millionaires and middle class will too.

And once they are done taxing us of everything we have, and none of us are left, they will tax you.

Now, if you’re frustrated about crime, healthcare and education you should be. I am, too: our approach to these issues is trash. Our results on these issues are also trash.

So fix the problem: kick out the people who run the kleptocracy. Elect real leaders who are competent, firm, tough and high agency.

But no matter what you do, if you keep asking for politicians to take people’s money, you are firmly part of the fraud not part of the solution…and everyone sees you.
