What is the mitochondrial biochemical threshold? This systematic review explores heteroplasmy and OXPHOS to identify tissue-specific thresholds for pathogenic mitochondrial variants. The accepted threshold (>60%) might be lower than previously presumed. https://t.co/4F0aO2z2KF
We have a new published paper!

What circulating metabolites mediate the association of AHA’s Cardiovascular Health Score with heart failure? Find out in our new publication in @JAHA - https://t.co/gHKlFvNzLU
After a stellar & exciting lab discussion on software pipelines for identifying NUMTs & mtDNA variants led by @ArielXue1, the lab went out for some mini golf! Grateful to work with such talented, passionate and dedicated mentees alongside @dmgopalcardio
In this week’s journal club, we read an article about how Drp1 knockout impairs skeletal muscle structure + function in mice. Along with decreased mitochondrial fission, there appears to be mitochondrial dysfunction and impairments in cellular calcium handling. 🐁💪 #mitochondria

Excited to share our review on how mitochondria are an ecosystem perturbed in heart failure! It’s time to stop studying single measures of mitochondrial function so that we can better understand the mechanisms. @dmgopalcardio@BSchwarMD@GjiniPetro@bu_icamp@JACCJournals
Excited that our COVID labor of love is finally out! We developed a systematic and rigorous dissection and preservation protocol of whole human 🫀s to facilitate spatial multiomics- https://t.co/tRg248HhUe @bu_icamp@JDM_Physiology@dmgopalcardio
#newpaper from our lab describing a novel protocol for the systematic dissection and preservation of human hearts for multiomics application! Cardioplegic solution storage and PAXgene fixation result in efficient recovery of RNA and metabolites! #omics https://t.co/ooxaoW43KS
In today's lab journal club, we discussed a novel tool called SNORCL for the generation of molecular oxygen with cellular sub-compartment specificity. SNORCL creates new opportunities to unravel the role of oxygen and hypoxia in pathophysiologic states, credit to @VamsiMootha lab
In lab meeting, a problem was raised & bc of the collective creativity, we identified a solution with the entire team pitching in to divide & conquer. Great reminder that a culture of inclusivity -> innovation. We are stronger together 🫀 @bu_icamp
2/2 Their findings highlight the ability of iPSCs to effectively recapitulate disease phenotypes and serve as a model for investigating human mitochondrial genetic variation." https://t.co/OP1c4iknkB
1/2 Journal club: One of the most common pathogenic mtDNA variants is the m.3243 A>G variant in the tRNA Leu gene. Ryytty et al. studied the pathogenesis of cardiomyopathy in MIDD by evaluating the metabolic perturbations in iPSC-CMs from patients carrying this variant.
An 18-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of headaches and midscapular pain that was worse at night and lessened with exercise. Read "The Young and the Breathless," where a case is presented in stages with experts' responses. https://t.co/H3Z1Ufhhqm
So grateful for my team @bu_icamp and research partner @dmgopalcardio for taking care of things (including a possible lab flood situation & -80 alarm) and running interference so I could have a week of vacation fully unplugged. You’re the best ♥️
The just-announced U.S. Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization represents a stunning reversal of precedent that inserts government into the personal lives and health care of Americans. https://t.co/yB5WRMlXso
