I would absolutely love to see an early season commonwealth tournament every year:
Virginia Tech
JMU
UVA
Liberty
ODU
VCU
Richmond
George Mason
I would be so invested in this
To clarify for the dense people in the replies: No, JMU is not bussing to Oregon.
The Dukes bus to an off-campus location where each player picks up a Lime scooter. They then travel as a pack via scooter with the linemen at the front and back to fend off wild animals.
@RedditCFB This is why you create objective measures. Everything relies so much on the subjective eye of the committee right now.
Every team needs a clear path. There can still be at large bids but every team from every conference needs to know exactly what needs to be done to get in.
@BudElliott3 An auto-bid should never be left up for subjectivity. It should always be a clear and objective target for teams. Require at most 1 loss or even an undefeated season, I don’t care, but it can’t be left up to the subjectivity of the CFP committee’s rankings.
Miami at Texas A&M is the best first round game. Can’t wait to watch that one. Alabama and Oklahoma will be another rock fight. Ole Miss and Oregon will smoke Tulane and James Madison. Gotta end the automatic bids for small schools.
You have a clear path to the playoff. Win your conference. JMU and Tulane did that. Texas did not.
Handing 9-3 Texas a CFP bid would be more of a “participation trophy” than JMU and Tulane earning their way in.
#25 James Madison and #20 Tulane getting in is not what the playoffs should be about, the 12 best teams should get in
The playoffs shouldn't be handing out participation awards
@chrishuntsman@hankmardukas80@JMUSportsNews The committee said they were going to value that metric more this year but they haven’t at all. SOR is way more telling of how good a team is than SOS
The days of the 4-team CFP are behind us, for good. If expansion to 24 teams is happening (inevitable), every conference champion should be represented in the College Football Playoffs.
