Our new OA paper is out here: https://t.co/RO0FDP5NL0
We present an approach for combining tracking data and remote-sensed threat maps to quantify year-round individual risk exposure.
We use @_BTO Cuckoo tracking data to reveal seasonal and flyway differences in risk exposure.
New website for our @NERCscience@ESRC project exploring the health & well-being value of natural #soundscapes is now live: https://t.co/7sgbLAamdl. Beautifully designed by @buchanding. Check back for updates as project develops.
@Gauldblimeyjet We obtained approval from ethics board of lead institution only (tho our survey was written and circulated solely by lead institution authors, with no ref to other institutes, and survey responses only seen by lead institution authors). @antica_c
📢 #phdopportunity exploring relationships between landscape structure, bird community composition and soundscape characteristics. With me, @j_gilroy1 & @simon_gillings @ARIES_DTP @biouea. Application deadline 29 May 2023.

1/ We have recently returned from a very successful #biouea undergraduate field course to Peru. Many thanks to instructors @buchanding@j_gilroy1 and @coleopteriste for their fantastic company, enthusiasm and expertise.
📢 #soundscape PhD alert 📢 Reconstructing historical UK soundscapes to explore relationships between landscape structure, bird community composition and soundscape characteristics. With @j_gilroy1@simon_gillings @biouea #ecoacoustics#phdopportunity

1 Long-distance 🦅migrants are declining. Understanding drivers of declines (what, how, where, when) is necessary to reverse trends. Migrants may be exposed to numerous anthropogenic threats throughout annual cycle, effects of which may be interactive/cumulative #BOU2021#Break1
@Dr_ALI_HS Hi Ali - if you are looking to recreate risk surfaces for your study area there are details on how we assembled/created these in the paper (and SOM) here: https://t.co/JnZpQuTXm2
@D_Scallan we don't show that hunting itself is linked to pop. declines, just that a composite risk surface including hunting and other risks elsewhere established as threats to mig. birds are linked to pop. declines. hope that answers your q!
@D_Scallan Thanks David - we mapped relative hunting risk for large- and small-bodied species thru a survey of expert opinion from across the region, combined with metrics of accessibility, protected areas etc.
@juliet_vickery@IBIS_journal Thanks Juliet! Yep, this crossed our minds too... Spatial refinement of nonbr ranges is currently a fairly unavoidable issue, but reassuringly our results hold when we used risk exposure calculated across artificially coarsened ranges.
(below is e.g. for sparrowhawk br range)
New OA paper: https://t.co/JnZpQuTXm2
🗺️ We mapped 16 anthropogenic threats to migratory birds across the Afro-Palaearctic.
🕊️ We used these to create composite species-specific threat scores for >100 bird sp and related these to the PECBMS population trends. 1/2
NEW: How does Europe get its gas? In our latest project we map the continent’s sprawling network of gas pipelines, explaining why prices and doubts over supplies are exposing Europe’s reliance on the fuel that underpins much of its economy ⛽️🌍
