“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive … Those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
— C. S. Lewis
The Soviet Union once tried to abolish genetics.
Trofim Lysenko, a poorly educated agronomist, rose to power in Stalin’s USSR by promising miraculous increases in crop yields - exactly what the regime was looking for. He rejected decades of established genetic research as “bourgeois pseudoscience” and instead promoted the idea that characteristics acquired during an organism’s lifetime could be inherited by its offspring. According to Lysenko, if wheat was trained to survive in cold conditions, future generations would inherit that resistance.
With Stalin’s enthusiastic backing, Lysenko’s views became official state doctrine. Genetics was banned from universities and research institutes. Leading scientists who defended the traditional science were denounced, arrested, even executed. The most prominent victim was Nikolai Vavilov, one of the world’s greatest geneticists and plant breeders, who died of starvation in a Soviet prison in 1943.
Lysenko’s methods were applied across Soviet agriculture with disastrous results. His techniques repeatedly failed to deliver the promised yields, contributing to chronic food shortages. Yet because his theories aligned with Marxist ideology – which emphasised the power of environment and rejected “bourgeois” notions of fixed heredity – they were protected from criticism.
This was not merely a case of bad science; it was a deliberate political project in which the state attempted to subordinate biological reality to ideological requirements. When empirical evidence conflicted with the regime’s worldview, the evidence was suppressed and those who defended it were punished.
Of course, we see the same pattern today whenever political movements insist that institutions must affirm contested claims about human biology - particularly around sex and gender - even when those claims contradict well-established findings in genetics, endocrinology, and developmental biology. When ideology claims authority over scientific truth, the result is not progress, but the corruption of both science and public policy.
Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, loved you enough to come down and die in your place so you can experience God’s goodness for all eternity instead of the wrath of God for all eternity in hell.
“Magatte, doing business in Africa isn’t as hard as you make it sound. We have one-stop shops where you can register a company in 24 hours!”
Well, here’s my question: what do you have to do before you get to that one-stop shop?
First you have to collect the documents it requires, and those come from different offices. You might be going to the municipality for one and the neighborhood chief for another. The clock starts after all that.
The devil is in the details.
And registering a company is not the same as getting every permit you need to operate. Depending on the business, the whole process can drag on for months, sometimes years!
This is also how officials get opportunities to demand bribes.
Make the process unbearable, then offer to make your problems disappear for a payment.
One-stop shops haven’t solved the real problem: it’s still far too hard to do business in most of Africa.
“El hombre no es libre a menos que el gobierno sea limitado. Hay una clara causa y efecto aquí que es limpia y predecible como una ley física. A medida que el gobierno se expande, la libertad se contrae”
Ronald Reagan
Why Leftists Romanticize Indigenous Cultures
Civilizations depend on a mature population capable of self-governance.
Those who feel responsibility as an unfair burden, create a fictional past where the tribe took care of the individual.
They believe "decolonization" will rebirth the "noble savage" untainted by society.
Instead, you'll see more tribal conflict and the normalization of violence.
Anyone who claims that property rights don't matter would surely sing a different tune the second their body and their property is violated by another.
Because it's inescapable: people want their consent to their stuff respected.
Six Battles a Man Must Win in Private:
1. His Eyes: What he looks at when nobody sees. Job 31:1
2. His Thoughts: What he allows to live in his mind. 2 Corinthians 10:5
3. His Appetites: What he refuses to deny. 1 Corinthians 9:27
4. His Pride: What he will not confess. Proverbs 28:13
5. His Anger: What he keeps rehearsing. Ephesians 4:26
6. His Prayer: Whether he seeks God before he acts. Luke 18:1
The man you are in secret is the man you really are.
I hate the narrative that opposing someone else’s socialism makes you anti-socialist.
If you oppose their redistribution, subsidies, price controls and central planning, then demand your own redistribution, subsidies, price controls and central planning, you’re not anti-socialist.
You’re just arguing over who gets to run it and that you can do it right this time.
”When the government makes loans or subsidies to business, what it does is to tax successful private business in order to support unsuccessful private business.”
- Henry Hazlitt 😯
The ultimate horror of totalitarian central planning is not just economic poverty… it is the complete erasure of individual human value.
When the state claims ownership over all property, land, media, and production, it inevitably claims ownership over your life, thoughts, and conscience.
History shows us that whenever human dignity is subordinated to a political collective, mass tragedy is the inevitable destination.
”Prices are important not because money is considered paramount but because prices are a fast and effective conveyor of information through a vast society in which fragmented knowledge must be coordinated.”
