@Spinoozilla @prikolman_ It is. Oda leans into battle shonen elements but the structure of the story and the deeper narrative motifs are more commonly found in your average fantasy novel than in DBZ

@JoyBoyTheories Observation Haki (specifically the earliest depictions like Zoro vs Mr.1) is heavily based on the Zen concept of "Mushin" or "no-mind" which is practiced in real martial arts and other forms of combat.

For me luffy as a character is consistently being explored even though his static. He grows as a leader ( enies lobby, post marineford and wci), his ideals are constantly challenged throughout the story and obviously his influence changes lives of countless characters which even makes them better characters. Luffy has shown emotional depth, strong characterization and moments throughout so many of the arc ( arlong park, enies lobby, alabasta, saboady, dressrosa, wci and wano). That is why i mess with luffy.

Gear 5 remains to this day that most well-written fantasy concept I've ever seen. To culminate 1k+ chapters of complex theming and character arcs with one transformation and make it this dynamic in respond to every thesis.. it is beyond transcendant.
