“Every perspective on economic life that is human and moral must be shaped by three questions:
1. What does the economy do *for* people?
2. What does it do *to* people?
3. How do people participate in it?”

@SteveMissionary @DavidPaternostr@jharmonsj Today especially, Mary’s Magnificat isn’t a bad guide: begin and maintain a focus on God’s goodness (my soul proclaims the goodness of the Lord) and then let ‘er rip on all the non-goodness out there that needs God’s mercy and kindness (cast down the mighty, lift up the lowly).
@SteveMissionary @DavidPaternostr@jharmonsj Anger driven by the good spirit will have sorrow in there somewhere. eg ‘Damn this is ugly, painful, sickening, etc’. Anger driven by the evil spirit will tend to distance me from the suffering and pretend I’m somehow ‘better than’ - i.e. evil begins/ends in self-centered pride.
@SteveMissionary @DavidPaternostr@jharmonsj Descriptive/expressive is generally safe and definitely healthy! The evil spirit here was characteristically more interested in shadow and silence than truth-telling. ‘God dammit’ anger seems an appropriate prayer in this moment. Evil spirit should be told to go back to hell.
Since I'm seeing a bunch of zombie takes about "How To Solve The Politics of Immigration" today, a brief thread on my experience covering this issue the last 13 years.
