While everyone talks about OpenAI and GPT, most people might have missed that thousands of brilliant people have been working on open source alternatives.

For my work with @HippoAI I have collected and visualized some of the most important transformer models and separated them in 3 categories. While most people still "don't want to look up", I believe that for Europe the best way to build our sovereign future is to embrace open source standards in all domains.

Why?

Unlike extractive AI, Open Source AI models have a regenerative effect and make positive contributions to the economy, society, and the environment. This is why I call them regenerative AI. These models are built on collaboration and enable local adoption to safeguard socio-cultural norms and can be implemented without increasing the negative effects of surveillance capitalism. Above all, they are a common good and are owned collectively by all of us.

Let's continue that path and not allow ourselves to be sidetracked by those who are only involved for a brief period and to further their own agendas. Similar as the internet, AI is a general purpose technology that should empower all of us.
