@Book2880@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson I think so, but I don’t think it moves the needle that much. I don’t think it was worth losing Verse, especially long term. It’s a risk that could pay off immensely, but it’s a massive risk.
I don’t think Garrett will fall off a cliff. I just don’t think he’s gonna lead the league in sacks again and be the best edge in the NFL. Just looking at the history that no 30+ year old has done that before to my knowledge and considering that there should be some physical decline given his age and snap count. He should get double digit sacks, but I think the difference in production from verse and Garrett will be a lot closer than many are expecting.
Verse and Garrett are very similar players in pressure rate and run defense. Verse is a young ascending player while Garrett is 31 and likely hit his peak. They are selling him at a high value. History suggests there will be decline this year. Verse would likely get multiple 1st round picks if they traded him. The browns have been drafting well recently. I would not be shocked if Verse breaks out and has similar sack numbers to Garrett.
@aa7380754464685@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson Yes, and often times we’ll say a player is declining but in reality it’s just bunch a bunch of age related nagging injuries that don’t get reported. Production decline is because the body breaks down.
@SteveRRamirez@JoeA_NFL He was playing elite until he tow his ACL last year. He hasn’t been declining. His sacks went down, but that’s more representative of the DLINE than himself.
@T__1042@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson Most of these players had their peaks at age 28-30 range so I don’t really understand your reasoning. That’s normal. It almost always goes down from there. Most players hit there peak at that age and then fall.
@T__1042@KNBR@sportslarryk@greg0silver@JDJohnDickinson Definitely! That’s because bodies start breaking down and recovering slower at that age. It’s extraordinarily rare for a DE to survive past that age. That’s usually why old players lose production, they start getting these nagging injuries. It’s biology.
