not an architect. tx-born, midwest-raised, homeschooled all over. into writing, Jesus, ttrpgs, classic literature & fandom culture. executive dysfunctionaire.
a man once told me he couldn't be comfortable reading Jane Austen because he kept thinking about what elegantly cutting way she'd sum him up, & honestly that's the correct amount of Fear her powers should induce.
@kendrictonn (interesting that in the follow-up, they post some quite well-known paintings too! shocking that more than one painting can be famous at a time, or perhaps this is news to OP)
Interesting microcosm of what's to come. In China, the market was flooded w/ AI short dramas. Viewership dropped from fatigue over similar "AI faces" and regurgitated stories, & they lost money. Simultaneously, live-action shorts suffered, lost in the flood of slop and AI fatigue
@WB_Baskerville i would believe it more if people were dropping out of AI tech to go take extreme wilderness classes & became preppers, instead of "publishing a substack about it," but I'm sure there is a cresting wave of sorts imminent.
@OurLadyofAntifa exactly, I gave this claim 20 seconds to think "hm well it's been like 2 years," & then dismissed it as hyperbole because what she's describing is essentially becoming a literal Lewis scholar?? also "read everything he read" ok. so. to start, that's just SO much classical poetry.
@lilpastagoblin recently my algorithm has decided to show me memes about OCD therapy, and how counter-intuitive it is, but my shoulders drop in relief after hearing the examples! because you're right it can get to absurd levels!
@spellgage noooooooooooo!!! (valid, I always used to use him as explanation to other church ladies I knew, as a comparison to how other traditions handle saints writings, lol. I DO love his work though, so)
@eurydicelives once again, I am lying on the floor, due to the accuracy of this take. (being raised to view conversation as a polite exchange of enduring the boring bits politely is a KEY part of what built my character!) but yes, often people do enjoy their small talk?
@vividvoid this is a helpful framework because honestly, before it gets to others, I'm already ghosting *myself* in many ways (usually in self-care tasks, etc)
@goblinodds wait I do think Hufflepuff is the "we're trying not to be political" house, that focused on domestic things, which ends up being harangued by extremes on both sides
@LucastaHonoria@LeahLibresco possibly! I actually haven't read those. but oof & I thought the dropoff doesn't really happen until you get to Children of Dune, like if Messiah already feels like a dropoff, there is a CLIFF AHEAD haha. (I just genuinely feel like Dune, as a standalone, is not a complete story)
@LucastaHonoria@LeahLibresco (all the people saying not to read Dune Messiah are opaque to me because Dune & Dune Messiah are 2 halves of a whole arc, imo. all of the subtle ominous foreshadowings that gather in the background of 1, come to fruition in 2.)
I remember thinking, back in the early 2000s, oh boy I don't know if Walden Media can do The Magician's Nephew, and they COULDN'T, it would have been silly to try, the only solution was to wait 20 years for technology & aesthetics & popular taste to catch up.
it's so fitting Narnia has been adapted by different directors, decades apart, which mirrors Lewis's kaleidoscopic scope that varied wildly per book, vs LoTR getting canonical adaptations via the superhuman effort of dedicated crew to maintain Tolkien's grounded realism.
Question: What are some of the best religious films? Can include films about religious figures, films featuring members of religious organizations, films with strong religious themes, etc.
@PhilipDBunn despite how wildly different it is from the book's aesthetic, I really like how cosmic Aslan appears in this, which gives me hope for how galaxy-spanning Narnia's creation will feel. LWW Aslan was like "ah. a big lion I suppose" which didn't feel properly awe-inspiring.
