Hey, @HeidiPriebe1 and I are running a writer's retreat just after the New Year. We'll talk about Zen, creativity, and maintaining the discipline and structure needed to keep a daily writing practice.
We'd love to have you!
@ollyrobot Yeah but as soon as we invented the bicycle and mass produced labor saving devices they didn't have to stay home all the time. 1 generation later they made the case for the vote and got it. With a lot of male support
Feminism kills me because literally every time we discover a technology that enables women some freedom from the tyranny of nature, we also change society within a generation to make it happen.
Men have never oppressed women. We love you! We're on your team! We always were!
If, instead of ignoring them, you peel off the thought and stay with the feeling, you will eventually arrive at a face-to-face confrontation with your fear of death
On the other side of that is real life
@Indian_Bronson@minordissent Not in the classic sense. The depressive internalizes everything, hyper-responsibilizes himself and sees the world in deep shades of gray. It only becomes neurotic when it becomes unrealistic. Many more executives and ppl in high stress jobs are depressive than other orientations
@prana_addict Please pardon my rhetorical flourishes. I am of course aware of biases and prejudices and I don't think those are good things. What I mean to say is that feminism doesn't even tell its own story realistically. It's not a struggle of men vs women and never has been
1. Nope https://t.co/Z9SO4vl0IJ
2. Suffrage came about a generation after industrialization and mass produced economic goods that freed up women's time and movement options
3. Wartime rape was outlawed during the Civil War and has been refined a bunch since. That has more or less tracked along with other humanist reforms to the laws of war/RoE etc. like the Geneva conventions. Women got legal protection against wartime rape before men got protection against mustard gas!
@emily_for_now@Thomasdelvasto_ Something like, the way the law or culture treats the concept of "men" or the concept of "women" independent of individual variation
@mamabehrpdx I'm genuinely sorry that happened to you. I'm talking about large societal concepts here, men and women as political classes. I'm not saying that individual men haven't hurt individual women - that has clearly happened and I wish it didn't
@_nomadic_soul I have no doubt individual men are total shitheads to you and I genuinely wish it weren't the case. I mean that broadly, as a society, if we imagine men and women as separate political classes, the class of "men" has cooperated with "women" much more often than we've defected
@jefflintz@eigenrobot I think he said early that postmodern subjectivity is inherently unstable, so there isn't a definitive path to a stable spiritual identity
