When Europeans first encountered Great Zimbabwe in the 1870s, they refused to believe it was built by indigenous Africans and attributed it to Phoenicians, Arabs, or even the biblical Queen of Sheba. The colonial government of Rhodesia actively suppressed archaeological evidence that contradicted this, and archaeologists who concluded that Africans built it faced professional consequences.
The dry-stone construction without mortar is also confirmed, over 900 years old still standing, built entirely from locally quarried granite shaped and stacked without binding material.
Yes. The philosophy of Wangari Maathai can simply be summarised as harmony with ecology in order to foster harmony with fellow human beings. We can't live in harmony as humans if we can't live in harmony with nature. In a serious country, she deserved a museum of her own.
I flew with @KenyaAirways last week, and it was the WORST EXPERIENCE ever.
1. The plane was parked a gate away from where passengers were called to board. A gate away. So why use that gate then? Heaven alone knows.
And get this - we had to walk on the skybridge, outside the airport building, down the flight of stairs into the tarmac and make our trek to the aeroplane to board the plane… OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT BUILDING, AND it was raining.
Yes, raining!
So all the passengers had to WALK IN THE RAIN to board the plane.
And we then had to wait outside for the passengers ahead of us to board. So, the rest of us WAITED IN THE RAIN.
We eventually boarded, drenched!
Absolutely crazy.
2. The staff at the boarding gate were chewing gum, talking amongst themselves, and treating passengers as if they were doing us a favour.
Gum.
Loud laughing.
Rolling eyes and demanding clients.
Kuningi nje.
3. My bag was badly damaged — really badly. While the bag is expensive (no need to get into the cost or the brand), they say I should have the bag delivered to them so they can take it to “their assessor” to decide whether to replace or repair it.
By the way, the bag is so badly damaged that it can't be fixed.
I fly… A lot.
I have already boarded over 40 flights this year. Last year, I travelled to over 20 countries.
I live in airports & airlines.
I regularly have unpleasant experiences on commercial flights.
I am not a sissy. I don’t complain. You take the good with the bad.
But I can tell you this for free: this KQ experience was horrendous.
It would have been more pleasant to pour Tabasco sauce into my naked eye & then blindly stir into a lunar eclipse.
Anyway, back to your regular scheduled program.

Non adhd people will never understand our perception of time.
This morning i was stressed because i had to get somewhere by 10, so i asked if my mom would microwave some breakfast for me while i was still getting ready, and she said "oh don't worry you'll have time. It's not even 9:00 yet”.
And she said this at 8:56.
Oh to live in a world where 8:56 is not equal to 9:00.
8:56 is absoLUTELY 9:oclock
8:40 is 9:oclock
8:30 is 9:oclock
EVERYTHING IS 9:oclock
AND IM GOING TO BE LATE
TRIBUTE TO MY BROTHER HON MOHAMED TUBI BIDU KETETA
Today Isiolo is mourning. Another son of the soil has gone back to the soil. Hon. Mohamed Tubi.
Hon. Tubi becomes the second Isiolo MP to die in office after Hon. Ahmed H. Fayo, who passed on in 1983. Both of these leaders came from families gifted with leadership, men loved by their people and who loved their people back.
When the fire goes out, darkness sets in. Today, Isiolo is in darkness. It is painful not only to his children and family, but to the entire county that looked up to him for guidance, hope and support.
Hundreds of poor children are in school today because of his heart for education. It wasn’t his personal wealth — it was CDF — but not every MP chooses to prioritize the education of the poor the way he did. My elder brother Tubi was always passionate about his people. He never shied away from defending them, even when it came at a political cost. He was principled and couragious.
I remember one time, donors from the Middle East were visiting Merti Holy Quran Centre. Merti isn’t even part of his constituency. Yet when we reached out to him at short notice to accompany the donors, he didn’t hesitate. He simply said, “Merti people are also my people. Let’s go.” That was Tubi. That was the leader he was, a man who believed in service beyond boundaries.
Those in Sericho know what I mean. They have the livestock they have today because of God and because of him. During the 2023 drought, he personally hired trailers to transport weak, dying cows to Tana River to give them a chance to survive.
Hon. Tubi had been battling illness ever since joining Parliament three years ago. Yet whenever he felt better, he was right back with his people visiting, checking, encouraging, standing by them.
Today we bury a matriarch, a man who stood tall for his people, who stuck his neck out for them time and again. His passing is a deep wound one that will take time to heal. May the soil soften for him.
May Allah forgive his sins, shower him with mercy, and welcome him into Jannatul Firdaus.
May Allah also comfort his children, who now face yet another heavy loss after losing their mother only four years ago.
Farewell, my brother. Your love, your service, your light will never fade from the heart of Isiolo people.

In this short documentary produced by VOCAL Africa, “Not Yet Justice” , the aftermath of the June 2024 protests against the Finance Bill 2024 is explored.
The protests, met with violent repression, led to deaths, injuries and disappearances. The film highlights the ongoing struggles of families seeking justice, individuals living with permanent injuries and those still recovering.
Despite their efforts, justice remains elusive, with no one held accountable for the violence.

Reading is so powerful now because, in a culture of doing so many things at once, it's stubbornly singular, when you're doing it you can't do anything else, you can't think about anything else, it demands all of you
I recently wrote a paper about her and i’m still in shock that she is still not celebrated in Kenya. She was the foundation of women advocacy at a time when women did not have a voice. She paved a path for women to pursue higher education when most were destined for domestication
Thank you!
Such a monumental point in my life, just acknowledging that you should always have the courage to speak truth! Always.
Manifesting a microphone where @WilliamsRuto is! Nimemmark!
Meanwhile in Namibia‘s Etosha National Park:
“While observing elephant herds gather at a waterhole in Namibia's Etosha National Park, we saw a mother elephant push through the crowd to proudly show us her newborn calf. It was incredible to witness the gentle affection and protective care the older elephants showed toward the newest member of their family.”
