@Partisan_O McCarthy was correct that there was a deep Communist influence in the US. The tarring of Elia Kazan by the Left for ex. is misguided. But the problem w/ McCarthy’s method is that it became all consuming. Any Leftist view became “un-American” and it backfired resulting in the 60s.
There are physiological reasons for this that are provoked by how the paintings are designed and constructed. The afterimage phenomenon and the effect of strong contrasting colors that cannot be perceived at once and therefore create a shimmering effect.
A wall of Rothkos is the most engaging thing in a museum. If you look for longer than a few minutes the painting with start to move. You begin to perceive more shades of color and the subtleties of the underpainting. The paint itself comes to life.
