Brotherhood undeterred, a partnership rooted in trust. During my working visit to the United Arab Emirates, I had the pleasure of meeting with H.H @MohamedBinZayed . Our discussions focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and the UAE, expanding cooperation, and advancing regional stability. I appreciate the warm reception and our shared commitment to deepening the friendship between our two nations.
The absence of permanent African seats on the Security Council is indefensible.
The Security Council must reflect today’s world. This is 2026 — not 1946.
Whenever decisions about Africa and the world are on the table, Africa must be at the table.
Today, as we thank God for the inauguration of GERD, my heart is filled with pride and joy. This great achievement shows what we can do when we stand together. Let us keep our unity strong, for with it, Ethiopia will reach even greater heights.
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a bold affirmation of Africa’s ability to marshal its own resources and shape its destiny. Funded entirely by the Ethiopian people, it is more than an infrastructure project; it is Africa’s largest hydropower facility, with an estimated capacity of 6,450 megawatts, and a continental symbol of self-reliance and progress.
For Kenya, it offers immense promise. We are ready to sign a power purchase agreement with Ethiopia to offtake surplus electricity to power our industries, ICT hubs, manufacturing, and agro-processing, while strengthening competitiveness, creating jobs, and driving sustainable growth.
No nation should be denied the chance to build such transformative assets because, with time, they become shared sources of prosperity.
Yet, even as we celebrate, we remain mindful of differing perspectives among Nile Basin countries. Kenya reaffirms its support for equitable use of shared waters and urges Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan to continue pursuing trilateral talks in good faith. Dialogue and compromise remain the surest path to a fair agreement that safeguards prosperity and stability for all.
Honoured to join fellow leaders in witnessing the historic inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam at Benishangul-Gumuz Region. Congratulations to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Ethiopian people on this remarkable achievement.
With us were Presidents @IsmailOguelleh (Djibouti), @HassanSMohamud (Somalia), Salva Kiir Mayardit (South Sudan), Barbados Prime Minister @miaamormottley, Prime Minister of Eswatini Russell Mmiso Dlamini and Africa Union Commission Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

Too often, Africa’s story at climate summits begins with what we lack – lack of finance, lack of technology, lack of time. Let us begin instead with what we have.
President Guelleh attends the CARICOM-Africa and the African Climate Summits in Addis-Abeba.
The visit includes talks with PM @AbiyAhmedAli, strengthening Djibouti-Ethiopia ties and attending the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Is the “Arab League really a League of Arab Nations, or the League for execution of Egypt’s anti-Ethiopian policy”?? Why doesn’t it discuss the issues of its member nations which are on the process of failing or have already failed and whose peoples are suffering from insecurity, instability, displacement and hunger caused by war? What is the reason for the “Arab League” to make the issue of Ethiopia’s water utilization plans its eternal agenda, while there are a lot of issues to be addressed by this entity?? What legal or moral ground does the “Arab League” have to threaten Ethiopia on behalf of Egypt and instruct Ethiopia to apply for permission to utilize its own resources? The League has badly exposed itself that it doesn’t represent the rest of Arab nations.
💧🇪🇹 #GERD is the largest dam in Africa and one of the ten largest in the world, representing one of the cornerstones of Ethiopia’s national energy strategy.
The project is a complex infrastructural system that, by harnessing the waters of the Blue Nile, achieves an installed capacity of 5,150 MW, equivalent to three medium-sized nuclear power plants.

Pleased to speak with Ethiopia’s PM @AbiyAhmedAli today and share that @IAEAorg’s #RaysOfHope will provide a LINAC to Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa to strengthen cancer care, following my June visit.
We also stand ready to support 🇪🇹’s plans to introduce nuclear power.
