[ECOWAS Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control @Ecowas_cdc]

Last week, @Ecowas_cdc organized the inaugural workshop to establish the Technical Advisory Council (TAC) of the @Ecowas_cdc. This event took place from February 18 to 19, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.

The TAC is an essential management body of @Ecowas_cdc , responsible for providing technical advice to the Executive Director @JMDiarrass. Its role is fundamental in ensuring the scientific excellence of the Centre's activities and formulating strategic recommendations based on global best practices for managing emerging health threats in the region.

The primary missions of the TAC include:

1.⁠ ⁠Ensuring the scientific excellence of the Centre's activities.
2.⁠ ⁠Providing strategic advice on health threats in the ECOWAS region.
3.⁠ ⁠Promoting the exchange of information and sharing of knowledge on health threats.

This event has brought together the Directors of the National Coordination Institutions (NCI) of the @ecowas_cedeao Member States, as well as technical and financial partners such as WHO, Africa CDC, GIZ/RPPP, IPD, AFENET, World Bank, UKSHA, European Union, BMGF, DHIO, ADRAP, and Pandemic Threats/FIND.

In conclusion, this inaugural workshop marks a significant milestone in strengthening regional capacities for managing health threats. By bringing together experts and key institutions, @Ecowas_cdc is committed to implementing effective strategies to safeguard health security within @ecowas_cedeao. The TAC, as a consultative entity, will play a crucial role in guiding future initiatives and fostering increased cooperation among various stakeholders.
