“It is estimated that within just 4 million years, and provided humans are completely extinct, biodiversity on the planet may recover fully from the 6th Mass Extinction. Earth can, and will, continue without humans. Humans cannot continue without Earth” #ecology#amwriting
A dog walk took me through the local #cemetery today. Couldn’t help but think it’s a shame we haven’t broadly embraced memorial forests / woodlands. A native tree for every person seems a much better use of land than this.
OMG this is fabulous !
What happens when a remote camera gets set at Rail height in a farm paddock?

or maybe that's the bird version of peuw peuw 🔫 & we've all just been shot 🤣

River regulation in Australia... Downstream of a large dam at 98% capacity but no water being released to support freshwater species. Guess no platypuses here anymore...
@ChrisMinnsMP We were expecting some respite from the Liberals' onslaught on the environment, not your push for even more immigration and more high-density housing. We missed the bit where you asked Dominic to hold your beer.
@kary_cee@savesydneykoala@tanya_plibersek It's no surprise that they will do what the legislation allows them to do. It's the legislation that needs to be revisited.
@savesydneykoala@tanya_plibersek A 'housing crisis' is not what is sending our native species extinct, but the endless quest for growth using the simplest and laziest approach, immigration. Our politicians must begin planning beyond their own terms, and begin to do things better.
It’s time for a re-think about how we are managing dingoes in Australia. Currently our largest native (land) predator is not protected in National Parks. @tanya_plibersek “wild dog” baiting programs carried out during breeding season can kill up to 90% of the dingo population.
“ms berejiklian gave evidence to the inquiry that she believed she was not required to follow the ministerial code of conduct because a premier was not a minister.”

Some interesting fruiting bodies of #Fungi you’ll find in undisturbed old growth forests of #Tasmania
Clavaria, zollingeri
&
Clavulinopsis, sulcata.
Visible from February to June, both around 10cm in height with- ‘Hey look at me’ colour & design.
@Matt_KeanMP "...Berejiklian’s conduct, while it constitutes or involves a substantial breach of the ministerial code, is not so serious as to merit criminal punishment".
Matt, no matter how much you would like to, you cannot frame this any other way.
@YungEnChee1@AFCA_Forests@_LisaMCox @Matt_KeanMP @lendlease biobank site Noorumba Reserve Mt Gilead ( their Figtree Hill development)
Polluted by erosion from LL earthworks for over a year
LL plan to bio bank it again for their proposed Stage 2 development
This is what offsets look like

This is Braemar State Forest. The NSW Govt is about to log it. It’s koala habitat & koalas live here (only just). Around 70% of the koala population was wiped out by the19/20 black summer fires! They’ll be extinct 2050. It’ll cost taxpayers to log it. #koalas#extinction#nswpol
Below are the two most important metrics of our time. Top: the decline of biodiversity between 1970-2018. Below: global temperatures between 1850-2022.
