I had the pleasure of attending the EIC Summit 2026 in Brussels, and it was truly a fruitful and inspiring experience.

What made the summit especially valuable was not only the opportunity to meet innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers from across Europe, but also the chance to reflect on the future direction of European innovation. The EIC Summit brings together deep tech, science, entrepreneurship, and policy, and this year’s discussions strongly highlighted Europe’s ambition around competitiveness, technological sovereignty, scaling breakthrough technologies, and creating real societal impact.

For me, the summit provided fresh insights into how Europe can shape its future through bold research, responsible innovation, and stronger bridges between academia, startups, industry, and public institutions.

I left Brussels with renewed motivation and many ideas about how robotics, AI, and cognitive systems can contribute to this broader European vision.

Many thanks to the organizers, speakers, and everyone I had the chance to meet and exchange ideas with.

Our demo proposal, “Creative Tool Use in Robots: Reasoning Beyond the Obvious”, has been selected for funding through the High Tech Visibility Boost 2025 program at TU Delft! 🎉

We're developing an interactive demo where a robot goes beyond simple commands—it reasons. It interprets natural language instructions, identifies the right tool or part of a tool, locates the grasping point, and even proposes creative alternatives when the ideal tool is missing.

Powered by:
Ontology Grounded Retrieval Augmented Generation
PDDL-based symbolic planning
Vision + affordance-based reasoning

The robot showcases how AI can connect perception, language, and logic into real-world action—and explain every step to the audience in a transparent, engaging way.

18 yıl görev yaptığım İstanbul Üniversitesi-Cerrahpaşa BÖTE Bölümü'nden (12 yılı İstanbul Üniversitesi olmak üzere) istifa ettim (profesörlüğüme 8 ay kala 🙂). Çalışmalarıma Hollanda'da devam edeceğim. Zaman zaman Türk akademik camiası ve sistemine ilişkin değerlendirmelerimi paylaşacağım.
