​وقتی آدم با چیزی روبرو می‌شه که خیلی بیشتر از توان تحمل روانشه، مغز برای برای خود مراقبتی، یک لایه محافظتی دور خود�� می‌کشه. در واقع سیستم عصبی موقتاً «آفلاین» می‌شه تا فرد از شدت وحشت‌ سکته نکنه. روانشناسی به این حالت می‌گه کرختی عاطفی (Emotional Numbness).
اون آدم‌ها راه می‌رن، می‌بینن و نفس می‌کشن، اما اونجا نیستند. در واقع دچار «گسستگی» شدن. حس می‌کنن دارن یک کابوس یا یک فیلم رو تماشا می‌کنن.
​این بهت و سکوت، اتفاقاً واقعی‌ترین واکنش به یک ترومای سنگینه. فریاد و ضجه مال زمانیه که مغز فرصت کنه ابعاد فاجعه رو بفهمه.
