A bit of an update at Colliers. EVP.
Reflected quite a bit on this as sometimes it’s worth taking a moment to celebrate the wins. Thought I’d tell a short story about the start.
EVP is the highest title you can receive at Colliers without time (Vice Chairman requires 25 years)
In 2012, I had just come off being an assistant and before that an analyst. This first year in sales, no salary was pretty scary. CRE deal timelines are on average 18 months so I was living off a line of credit, credit card, a bit of savings and $4000 gift from my parents.
At the time I started printing off ownership details of every downtown property, walking the streets and putting them in binders organized by street.
I would also print off every residential development application from the city and read the city report start to finish.
Basically every day felt like the night before a big exam in school. But I knew deep down I had something to prove and that kept me moving forward.
Ultimately my first 5 years were a bit distracted as I started two other small businesses. My only regret was not putting full attention into one thing at a time. I realized in 2017 focus was most important and dropped everything else and put every inch of myself into my work. The following year I sold one of the biggest high rise sites in downtown and I was onto a path.
So now that (I think) I’ve learned a few things. I wanted to share.
I heard a quote from a book a little while ago and it is certainly the most true form of building a business.
Book: The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
The boy says to the Horse in the woods.
“I can’t see a way through”
The horse says:
“Can you see your next step?”
The boy says “yeah”
The horse says “so just take it”
Mid way through my career I put a quote up on my computer “action is the real intelligence”
Quite honestly the best advice to give is to just take action. Since many never do.
@ronmortgageguy Issue with us Ron is that we extract our natural resources just to enrich the multiple national corps, it is never to enrich the Country.
@StephenPunwasi The effectiveness of Singapore's Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) and Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in combatting corruption has resulted in the establishment of many anti-corruption agencies (ACAs) in other Asia Pacific countries too.
@ronmortgageguy@GregSmi21870738@cafreeland Thanks for clarifying Ron, I knew this but thought there was another loophole only seasoned mortgage guys like yourself would know.
