Do not underestimate the impact that a 🇬🇧 education routed in Design & Technology had on Jony Ive and therefore on the success of @Apple in those turnaround days.
In 1997, Steve Jobs fired 4100 people, cut 70% of products, and simplified to 4 items on a 2x2 matrix.
Everyone thought Apple was doomed. But this was the turnaround of the century.
Every entrepreneur needs to understand why it worked & how Steve saved Apple from bankruptcy 🧵:
@ianwhite21@tombennett71@Doug_Lemov The truth is that you can also achieve great results whilst still providing a breadth of curriculum and experiences. Some schools lauded by @tombennett71 such as Michaela fail to provide this for their students as they only chase P8 scores for their own vanity.
How you can cut workload.
-feedback not marking
-improve communication
-clear email policy
-review initiatives you have implemented in the last 5 yrs, what is actually effective
-autonomy in planning
-upskill staff to stop relying on PP in lessons
All can be done in house, now.
@BrendaMDiaz4BOE@EssentiallyMath@tombennett71 If there was no functional improvement why were you delivering it via screens in the first place? Besides saving money and time printing?
@EssentiallyMath@tombennett71 This is a school problem, not a technology problem. Schools needs to have a teaching and learning plan for how to effectively use technology in lessons, and then ensure they invest in training and the right tools.
@tombennett71 @Ka81 2/2 Using tech as simply another tool to your teachers toolkit can help reduce workload and provide new and enriching learning experiences.
Getting home and doom scrolling social media 📱 is something entirely different.. #Edtech
@tombennett71 @Ka81 Good use of tech in lessons should provide functional improvements to pen and paper, eg an MS form to self mark or in some classrooms a new experience, eg Google earth. Not all screen time is created equal and it’s both school and parents responsibility to understand this. 1/2
This Quick Guide, from fellow educator @miss_aird, introduces powerful tools from #MicrosoftEDU—like: Immersive Reader, Dictate, and Picture Dictionary—for supporting students during International #DyslexiaAwarenessMonth.
@MrThorntonTeach@moore2_learn In the spirit of critical thinking, try to also find some time to listen to this episode of ‘if books could kill’ https://t.co/5aJJnafSYy
@XpatEducator@PearDeck@quizizz@quizlet Good point, edtech tools perhaps lend themself more to retrieval and in 1:1 schools, no point in tech getting in the way when it doesn’t need to.. for cold calling before ‘cold calling’ was a thing I simply asked students to sit on their hands 🙌🏽
Google's NotebookLM is the current best "wow this is amazing & useful" demo of AI
Here I gave it the entire text of my book, it turned it into a podcast, a study guide, FAQ, timeline & quite accurate chat
Listen to the first few minutes of the "podcast." Seriously, just listen.
