๐จ Hollidayโs Hitting Advice
โข โHit the pitcher in the faceโ
โข Approach > Mechanics
โข Be on time for the fastball
โญ๏ธ Overthinking is your biggest enemy on the field. Simplify the game down to 1 thought & commit to your approach.
Yesterday I wrapped up my college baseball career as well as my playing career. I was reflecting on some things that I wish I knew coming into college or somethings that I would tell younger players interested in playing college baseball. So here they are in no particular orderโฌ๏ธ
Youโre performance isnโt your identity, your preparation should be your identity. Preparation is a reflection of who you are and what youโre trying to become. The path will end, but the preparation will teach you how to survive beyond the game.
Ken Griffin on the single factor he looks for when hiring at Citadel:
"show me an athlete who did well academically."
"an athlete because they know what it takes to win and they've had to experience loss."
talent is everywhere. what's rare is someone who knows how to lose, recover, and still perform at a high level.
same thing separates profitable traders from everyone else.
For some reason 20 years later I havenโt forgotten my recruiting trip to Arizona.
The Hall of Fame coach Andy Lopez asked me in his recruiting pitch:
โAre you a rockโฆ or a jelly bean?โ
Both are hard on the outside.
Jelly bean? Soft in the middle.
Rock? Solid all the way through.
Reflecting on thatโฆ
that wasnโt about baseball (okay, a little)...
That was about who you are when things donโt go your way.
Because a lot of guys look toughโฆ until failure hits.
Bad game. Benched. Things donโt go as planned.
Thatโs when you find out.
Being a rock doesnโt mean you donโt feel it.
It means youโre grounded. You donโt crack. You respond.
20 years laterโฆ I still think about that question.
So when things speed up and adversity hitsโฆ
Ask yourself:
Are you a jelly bean right nowโฆ or a rock?
Your response to adversity will give you the answer.
I know other players who heard that same question too.
Curious your thoughts on it from a great coach.
As a fan and competitor, I respected the way he went about it.
Be solid. PTLG.

Love this. Itโs being reposted quite a bit so Iโll join in. A lot being said in just under 2 minutes. Several takeaways, but one for me is cage bombs and constant pull side training does NOT get you better in real time.
Chris Dimino caught up with Tim Hyers to talk about the art of hitting โ whatโs changed over the years and what still wins at the plate.
Braves fansโฆ youโre going to love this one.
So true with the eyes! Tracking the pitched ball from middle infield into the hitting zone vs. looking into the zone from 3b. Plays a big part on your jump and range.
Scott Rolen on playing 3B, converting in MiLB after playing SS in HS, illustrating differences in positioning, approach (always looking in to hitter) & throwing (why missing low is better than missing high). #shegone#Cardinals#Phillies@baseballhall
Explosive showing in relief for 2028 RHP Hank Vosik (NE) to close out the championship game.
Lean and athletic 6-foot-0, 175-pounds and moves really well down the mound.
