🫂Let's talk about community tools in our networking walled garden?
When we launched the SR Linux @discord server, it was unclear if it would work.
Launching a community venue starts with deciding which venue to choose from.
Ranging from well-known and loved/hated by many Slack all the way to some niche and/or open-source tools like gitter.
Despite being predominantly seen as a tool used by gamers and streamers, I put my finger on Discord.
Strong markdown support and non-destructive history in the free version was enough to beat Slack. So we rolled it.
As you can imagine, it was initially friends and family with little to no convos. A new "another" tool to use for chatting about a "niche" but fantastic NOS stood in the way of newcomers.
But with time we started to see members showing up, and conversations sprung up. Funny enough, our engineers started having (public) conversations in Discord instead of MS Teams.
When I was a customer myself, I would have offered my leg and arm to have a venue to talk with the vendor's engineers. This is precisely what we do at SR Linux Discord - maintaining a professional relationship with our users and helping them navigate the new NOS.
We had a great case with @fatred becoming (happy) SR Linux customer purely based on interactions via Discord.
Not saying that Discord was a silver bullet for us, but it definitely lives up to our expectations for a chat-based community tool that is pleasant to use.
Come join the community; you won't regret it.

Hey all,
In two weeks we will be holding a special Network Automation Hangout dedicated to "Kubernetes Network Emulation" project that is led by Google.
A special guest - Marcus Hines - the tech lead of this project will join us to tell us all about it.
The always-on srlinux instance is powered by @mysocketio and has $0 running costs.
The entire lab is run by @go_containerlab and the services are exposed by @mysocketio global anycast network
Do try it :)
🚨This is not a drill🚨
🥳This day has come and I'm delighted it has happened on my birthday.
