@upnorthlive The County Commission was NOT scheduled to discuss the Pines--it was on a "receive and file" of meeting minutes item on the consent agenda. These are never discussed, unless a Commissioner or member of the public pulls it for discussion, as Commissioner Andrews did.
I’m so tired of dealing with people who are too afraid to go ANYWHERE without their guns.
They think they’re brave, but they all look like cowards with security-blanket-weapons to me.

@PhDemetri They should be able to tell the difference between lies, damned lies, and statistical lies. They should also know something about the human factors of probability; people don't necessarily distinguish well between events with probability 0.01 and 0.0001.
@BillieAndrewL @RLJnews You don't understand this until you've lived in a city with transit. When I moved to Dallas in 1987, you had to have a car. After build-out of the train network, you could live without a car when I left in 2018. How the train network influenced development was very real.
@umichvoter It depends. In the snail mail era, I wrote a letter referencing a very specific problem and included a reference to a national newspaper article. Much later, I got a one-off letter thanking me and reviewing the actions taken.
Most of the time you will get a canned response.
Lead?
More Democrats voted to keep government open than Republicans did.
We had to drag your party kicking and screaming across the finish line to fund schools and pay servicemembers.
And that was after you wasted the whole week on a joke impeachment hearing as shutdown loomed
“Endemic” COVID: More total hospitalizations in 2023 than 2020.
But it’s cool because daily hospitalizations “remain at far lower levels than the worst points in the last few years.”
@upnorthlive January, 2021 was a pretty deadly COVID month. I was putting fuel stabilizer in my car because I was driving so little, it took months to get through a tank of gas. The abnormally low price in January, 2021 was due to a crash in demand. Not the brightest stunt.
Missouri lawmakers - the vast majority of whom are men - are asking teachers - the vast majority of whom are women - to shoot and kill school shooters - the vast majority of whom are students.
@upnorthlive I would love to see a longitudinal study of this question. I'm not sure that there has been a period in my lifetime (or my parents' for that matter) when this would have gotten a majority "yes." Because it wraps up so many views and opinions, it really isn't a useful question.
WATCH: One of the biggest policy priorities Whitmer announced yesterday was paid family and medical leave for workers in Michigan. While we don't know specifics yet, Minnesota's new policy may prove to be an inspiration.
With insight from Sen. @MalloryMcMorrow and @briancalley:
Have I got a story for you. It starts with a simple tip that someone has done a FOIA request for all 7 million voter signature cards in Georgia. I was able to get a screenshot of the request. It's much more insane than I could have possibly thought and people need to know.
In 37 years as a faculty member, I have never seen anything like this video.
It's the faculty senate at Texas A&M meeting with the university's president, Katherine Banks, the day before she resigned.
The reason she resigned is clear from the clip. https://t.co/JEtaxywjSX 1/
Not to be alarmist but…this is what’s called a six-sigma event, now unfolding in Antarctica.
Otherwise known as a once-in-7.5-million-year event.
Hang onto your hats.
