مجھے اپنی بیوی کو قتل کرنے پر ذرہ برابر بھی شرمندگی نہیں ہے۔" 65 سالہ بابا مجبور دین کے اس سفاک اعتراف نے پورے کمرہِ عدالت میں سناٹا چھا دیا۔
یہ کوئی عام قتل نہیں تھا۔ بابا مجبور اور اس کی 58 سالہ بیوی کی بظاہر پرسکون ریٹائرڈ زندگی کے پیچھے پچھلے 5 سالوں سے ایک آگ سلگ رہی تھی۔ بابے کے مطابق، اس کی بیوی نے اس کے ساتھ ازدواجی تعلقات بالکل ختم کر دیے تھے۔ وقوعہ کی رات جب بابے نے اسے قریب بلایا تو اس نے نہ صرف صاف انکار کیا، بلکہ پاس پڑی قینچی اٹھا کر دھمکی دی: "اگر اب تم نے مجھے مجبور کیا تو میں اسی قینچی سے تمہارا نفس کاٹ دوں گی!"

اس ایک جملے نے 65 سالہ بابے کے سر پر خون سوار کر دیا۔ اس نے پاس پڑا لوہے کا بھاری راڈ اٹھایا اور اپنی بیوی کے سر پر اتنے وار کیے کہ وہ موقع پر ہی دم توڑ گئی۔ لیکن اصل لرزہ خیز بات اس کے بعد ہوئی۔ بابا لاش کے پاس سے اٹھا، اطمینان سے خون دھویا، وضو کر کے نماز ادا کی اور پھر وہ خون آلود راڈ لے کر سیدھا تھانے جا کر گرفتاری دے دی۔

عدالت میں اس نے سینہ تان کر کہا: "میرا مذہب مجھے اس کا حق دیتا ہے۔ میرے بچے دودھ پیتے نہیں، انہیں سب پتا ہے۔ میں اپنی قانونی جنگ خود لڑوں گا!"

قانون اور معاشرہ اس وقت مزید بے بس ہو گیا جب بابے کے سگے بیٹوں نے بھی اپنی سگی ماں کے قتل کی ایف آئی آر اپنے باپ کے خلاف کٹوانے سے صاف انکار کر دیا۔ بالآخر بیٹوں کے مکر جانے پر، پولیس کو خود مدعی بن کر اس قاتل کے خلاف مقدمہ درج کرنا پڑا۔ ایک بند کمرے کی ضد نے پورے خاندان کو تباہ کر کے رکھ دیا!

According to data from Pakistan's National Police Bureau, 173,367 cases of violence against women were reported between 2021 and 2024. The reported incidents included more than 7,500 killings (including 1,553 honour killings), 17,771 cases of rape and gang rape, 121 custodial sexual assaults, 9,799 cases of domestic violence, 89,599 kidnappings and abductions, and 632 incidents of workplace sexual harassment.

The number of reported cases increased each year, rising from 30,757 in 2021 to 35,477 in 2022, 46,036 in 2023, and 61,997 in 2024. Overall, the data shows a substantial increase in reported violence against women over the four-year period.
