Paramedics play an essential role in identifying and assisting people who are vulnerable, and at risk of harm.
We'll explore this theme next month when we're joined online by @StJohnNZ paramedics Byron Williams (CSO) & Celeita Williams (ICP)

Super proud to have been part of the team that supported and provided the knowledge to Ganzi and his PNG colleagues, so he could save this ladies life. Well done @StJohnAmbPNG
@Buck_Reed Have you ever ran a simulation in a stinking hot room before, as I have been known to heat our simulation suits up to uncomfortably warm temperatures before, to simulate how the environment dictates our response.
@omeara_p @SarahWerner_NZ It has been previously published that slight changes to long term rostering & hiring processes, while still using the DDNN rotation allows a service to surge by 75%, instead of the 25% which the normal DDNN roster allows for, when only using full time staff. Thoughts on that?
@omeara_p @SarahWerner_NZ Their is however the scope to have a clinication, assistant model, for a mass resource surge. With the assistant able to do basic lifting, CPR and driving. The rest is up to the clinician. As a temporary solution.
Are you an experienced New Zealand paramedic looking for something a little less traditional?
@WaitemataDHB is piloting a new role requiring qualified paramedics with 2-3 years post graduate experience, to work within a multidisciplinary environment.

@SarahWerner_NZ @paramedickiwi@kiwib@AaronTuNZ I ❤ open access, and how knowledge builds a profession. However, I understand that journals are a business.
Do you think their is a place for database access to be provided by a professional body to support new knowledge?
@AleckaMiles Not just trauma, but also medical patients. The really question should be, for every patient a clinication should have a rational in choosing a destination hospital. Would you transport a patient with signs of a stroke, to a hospital that cannot CT, instead of one that can?
@BrittShaw94 Hi @BrittShaw94 often the best way to start is speak with your local university or in service research department (if you have one).
It may be best done as part of a Masters of PhD. However it does depend on what your topic is.
@Buck_Reed A good paramedic has the ability to provide good technical skills, good knowledge and a good ability to relate treat and value patients as individuals. Will make then good holistic practitioners.
@SarahWerner_NZ @DrLindaDykes I am pritty sure New Zealand does have this statistic, as I am pritty sure I have seen it in recent years in a older persons report. I cannot remember the exact report it is in.
