Some of you noticed limits drained faster in Codex, we root caused it to an optimization that we rolled back that had an impact on cache hit rates when compacting across long running sessions.
We fixed this and have now reset usage limits for all accounts. Enjoy the weekend.
We found and fixed two issues that could explain this degradation of the capability of GPT-5.5 in Codex over the last ~ 48 hours.
We are monitoring over the coming hours to fully confirm and I will reset usage limits this evening.
Apologies and now is the time for /fast maxxing.
I've been driving GPT5.5 on low reasoning for the last week+ and it's very good, very efficient. Haven't been tempted to reach for Opus at all. And it's more succinct than Kimi too. Huge leap forward for @OpenAI 👌
preview of our minimal mode that doesn't run as a fullscreen TUI
we're designing this carefully, it never rewrites your scrollback
which means there's some tradeoffs but it'll be the only coding agent that doesn't have flickering or weird layout shifts
Don't just reset Codex rate limits for fun, it costs money.

... but the vibes are good ...
I have reset Codex rate limits for ALL paid plans to celebrate a good week and allow everyone to build more with GPT-5.5. Enjoy
This codex issue is now fully resolved and stable for the last couple of hours.
You have come to expect it, but yes, that means we will be reseting rate limits in a bit. Enjoy.

[1/3] I'm really happy with how well The Big OOPs has been received. It was a hard talk to put together due to the volume and complexity of the material, and it took a lot of time to weave everything into a single coherent presentation that could flow well while being accurate.
Did someone seriously add an API in Chrome that allows the browser - the BROWSER - to permanently set the global microphone volume for the entire system, without notifying the user and with no way to disable it other than a hidden "experimental flags" UI?
