@MeriCarpenter99@SecretFire79 Yes, your statement stands. It’s why people need to read their Bibles to realize the weight, or lack thereof, of the sacraments as defined by Catholicism.
@A_Y_Rafindadi This guy is comical. “Jesus didn’t preach sacrifice”, He came to literally be the sacrifice once and for all. Muslims don’t have the true hope of salvation. They’re a lost people who will face the same judgement as non believers. I pray for them.
Ok. Whatever you want to think. It honestly doesn’t bother me. Like I said before, I don’t think we’re going to convince the other to change their way of thinking.
My issue is that you are equating things that aren’t even close to each other. Your “proof” of the BOM is built on hope something will eventually be revealed. So I reject your premise….and you go on a long self aggrandizing lecture trying to prove your hope. I’m not going for it. You can think I’m ignorant, you can think I’m dumb; I don’t care. It is what it is; Hope. Nothing more. You just call them my ‘assertions’, and don’t realize you’re exactly that.
I’ll repeat again because it’s true and relevant: The WHOLE Mormon faith has come from/through one man, Joseph Smith. That is not the same as the prophets of old OR how God has worked in the past. I don’t accept your attempt to change the premise or dismiss this fact. It’s not meant to be mean, it’s just true. If you’re not able to discuss its origin then there’s no purpose in continuing because you can’t admit to something that doesn’t even hurt your side. But ignoring it does.
Therefore, to me, since the whole Mormon faith relies on one man’s “revelation”, it’s fair to tie his character as to whether he’s worthy of believing. That is why there are stipulations on the difference between true and false prophets; to discern between what’s from God and what’s not. So that is where I stand. I don’t find him worthy of being a prophet. You can dismiss it by saying I’m disparaging or slandering him, but I’m not. That’s you just making yourself feel better because it’s expected of people who don’t share your faith. I get it from Mormons all the time. You write it off as a badge of honor, and tactic to distract or retreat when it’s not. It discerning truth.
You’re right, I do look at the BOM as you claim with bias of not being true. That is because I’m a Christian and it says on the cover of your book the very thing we are to watch out for and be critical of: “Another testament of Jesus Christ.” Of course I’m going to look at it that way. It would be ignorant of you and any other Mormon to think Christians would ‘be open to seeing if it’s true’ without bias. It may not have been a hard sell for you, maybe it’s been your family faith since 1830; but it’s a hard sell for most.
These are all valid points of contention, so try to convince instead of providing a “gotcha” lecture.
@craigo_michael@bearforheisman@jaredadairbell Agreed. Amen.
The source is God through prayer and His Word. He moves in incredible ways with abounding grace.
Unfortunately the Catholic argument on X isn’t your position.
These posts are fun to read. The sad thing that doesn’t fit your X marketing is that there are more people leaving Catholicism for Prot churches than the other way around. We just don’t bring it up because pride isn’t a trait we try to encourage. We don’t even view it as a victory, because the Catholic church isn’t the enemy. We’re just happy someone is seeking and finding Jesus.
I don’t follow the creeds made after either. There are good works that help educate and inform the scriptures, but they are not remotely equal in authority. But following the Bible in certain acts, yes. In doctrine, no. And at the heart of that is where the problem lies. That makes you Mormon, not Christian.
I know plenty of LDS people and they tell me what they believe. Sadly, they don’t know half of what the church claims when you dig into it.
No our church is more Christian. Am I doing it right?
Educate me on the cannon and why it should or shouldn’t be closed. Why? As someone who believes in Golden plates being interpreted by stones in a hat. That church wants to talk about Canon? Come on.
Is this how this is gonna work?
Christian is a follower of Christ. What defines that is the Bible and the teachings of Christ by his disciples. The claims LDS make regarding being “Christian” is crazy because it doesn’t line up with the Bible and is built on “another testament” of which we were warned about believing in. It’s from Joseph Smith entirely. I’m not Catholic (they have far too great of problems to jump into true church conversations) but the claim of Joseph Smith of having the revelation of the true church is not found biblically. Justify all you want, you’re not Christian.
@alfray7@marcado_razon@RestoredTruth8 You need to broaden your view on Protestant. The Catholic Church deems it necessary to label it as such because it’s been vilified. I don’t like everything you listed as well, but that’s not all Protestants….unless you need it to be to feel good about what you believe.
@bearforheisman@jaredadairbell True. It’s a wonderful journey as you grow up and learn more and more about the greatness of God. Plenty of opinions change. We don’t have the strangle hold of Catholicism telling us what to believe, or how to think….or else.
