@HovingtonMadde@therealmemfox This is definitely a book I would use in the classroom! As well as this it is amazing the amount of Aboriginal stories that can be accessed and used in the classroom to teach the students about diversity. A great example is 'Welcome to Country' by Aunty Joy & Lisa Kennedy.
@HovingtonMadde What a great idea to introduce diversity into the classroom! Students would find this so interesting and it would be a great learning tool for them to understand the many different aspects of cultures that are seen in their school community.
@HovingtonMadde Thank you for this resource @HovingtonMadde. I will definitely be looking into this more so that I can use it when teaching indigenous students in the future - I am sure it would actually be relevant for a wide range of students!
@HovingtonMadde@HarmonyDay_AU Harmony day is a great way for students to share their culture with their peers - this can include cultural dress and food just to name a few things. This is what I remember from @HarmonyDay_AU but I'm sure there is so much more that can be done.
As educators we need to be making sure these conversations are being had in our classrooms too. The sooner students are taught about sustainable practices the more likely they are to actively think about and use these skills throughout their life. #UonTeach#plasticfree
@Courtne55065061 Here is the link to their website. It is full of information on the program and how you can get involved!! I found it so useful while implementing my sustainability unit of work with my students. https://t.co/EA4Gi42FCp
Earth Day is coming up. This is a great opportunity to organise whole class and school events to further educate students and teachers on sustainability, waste, our impact and what we can do to minimise our contribution, etc. #EarthDay#UoNTeach
This is such a simple yet effective idea to help keep our world clean. Every time you head out (to the beach, the park, walking the dog) pick up 3 pieces of rubbish and dispose of them correctly. So easy right?? Small actions make a big difference!
@BarbaraBehan3 I'll copy the link to their education programs below. The website also has a multitude of visual and informative resources so definitely have a look through. I LOVE this organisation and how they aim to educate and inspire the broader community.
Over 1 billion coffee cups are throw away in Australia every year! Disposable coffee cups can no longer be recycled, so these will all be going directly to landfill. Have look at this article about a great incentive to bring your own cup. https://t.co/6yfaMyD4QK
@BarbaraBehan3 It really is, especially for people (like me) who order a takeaway coffee daily! There are so many websites you can buy reusable and affordable cups from, I'll list some below. Don't you think it would be great to implement something like this to school canteens?
It is a shock how much we are impacting the environment! It's now easier than ever to educate ourselves and students how to correctly dispose of our waste to minimise harm thanks to organisations like Planet Arc. https://t.co/p6TPWpzFBY #Uonteach
Did you know how many programs have been established to create sustainable ways to deal with waste! I had no idea how many 'reduce and reuse' incentives and organisations there were. This is definitely something to keep in mind when educating students about waste management.
@Kelly10510435 Me too! I didn't realise how much I was contributing to such a big issue. It is so great that the more we are educated about these issues the more we can do to actively minimise our waste. #UonTeach
https://t.co/PPJFX7GVZg Is a campaign to reduce single use plastic straws around Australia. It has suggestions on how we can help, lots of interesting information and you are even able to become a free "Straw Venue" member and receive free resource such as display posters!
This is a fantastic resource for Stage 2 and 3 to demonstrate how harmful single use consumables are to the environment. The resource advocates how society is mass producing and consuming produce and leaving the system in crisis.

What a positive step toward a more sustainable future! As educators, it is important to reflect and think how can we intergrate these practices and use them as an example to aim for. #UoNteach
Collaboration, knowledge construction, self-regulation, real-world problem-solving and innovation, ICT use, and skilled communication are all 21st century skills that students will develop in a citizenship integrated unit (Microsoft Partners in Learning, 2012).
