Immediately after USA Hockey won gold, they used the platform to honor Johnny Gaudreau. A beautiful tribute to a fallen brother.
His kind spirit is always with them.
They carry him every day.
Our ESPN piece on the life and legacy of Johnny Hockey, from one year ago.
Thoughts: After the commitment of Kentucky new QB1 Kenny Minchey, I have multiple takeaways, let’s dive into it:
1. I will give a round of applause for Will Stein for one reason, and it might seem like a “cope”, it might seem like something small, but it is an underrated sign as a HC, Will Stein pivoted fast, and went to his #2 guy from the portal when he saw the writing starting to happen on the wall with Sam Leavitt, who is the #1 transfer portal QB, and overall player according to ON3. It’s something I have harped on Mark Pope about 100 times, he does not know how to read the room and pivot fast in recruitments, I give Stein all the credit in the world.
2. If this is the guy Will Stein wants as his first QB1 at Kentucky, than you got me. I have all the faith in the world, until proven otherwise, of the fact Will Stein knows what he is doing with the QB position. Hint: Bo Nix, Dillon Gabriel, and Dante Moore.
3. This reminds me so much of Will Levis. A good player with promising skill sets, at prominent programs that win a lot, and a kid wants an opportunity to play.
4. Now that the QB position is filled, expect some Studs that want to be Fed starting to lineup wanting to sign up.
5. I’ll say this, Leavitt would’ve been amazing, there is probably a lot of spare money now that was in the Leavitt negotiations, that isn’t now being used on Minchey, that now can be spread out, on both sides of the ball, but I expect that money to be filled on the offensive line and trying to create a monster unit.
6. A few things about Kenny Minchey, 6’2”, 208-pound quarterback who played at Notre Dame, was originally committed to Nebraska out of the portal for 24-48 hours. He was a four-star recruit out of Pope Saint John Paul II Prep in Hendersonville, Tennessee, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 30+ touchdowns as a junior and even earning an All-American Bowl invite. At Notre Dame, he served as a backup but showed flashes, he was deep into the race, and nearly earning the starting job with CJ Carr this past season, and completed 20 of 26 passes for 196 yards in 2025 and adding 84 rushing yards with a touchdown. A dual-threat QB with good mobility and a solid arm, Minchey has a lot of potential even with limited college game experience so far.

Another Achilles tear, this time from a common move that running backs make. This type of movement pattern with a straight leg, foot plant too far behind, and fully loaded, is the pattern we see on almost all of these injuries
Russ on what it’ll be like playing OKC in the playoffs:
“I don’t know. That’s a first. That’s like home for me. I always got love for everybody there — the people, the fans. I know it’s mutual, but they also know the reason why they do love me — because I compete at a high level, and I’m going to do that every night — that’s all I can do is go out, be myself & compete. You know, try to go & steal one there.”
