Today, we were delighted to receive a visit from Ismahane Elouafi (@CGIAR_EMD), offering the chance to share our research with her.
Ismahane learned first-hand how the Alliance contributes to #agrobiodiversity conservation, global #foodsecurity, and #climatechangeaction. 🌎🌱
Specifically, Dr. Manoj represented the Nature Positive Solutions for Shifting Agrifood Systems to More Resilient and Sustainable Pathways under the Environment Health and Biodiversity caucus
@ChrisJKettle Thank you @ChrisJKettle of the @BiovIntCIAT_eng for reminding such a simple truth. 350m of evolution are enough to validate the idea that trees sink carbon. The only counterfactual in the article are claims from the company which is doing its job: doing business and this is ok.
📢 Dr. @IsmahaneElouafi appointed as CGIAR's Executive Managing Director. Currently @FAO Chief Scientist, Dr. Elouafi will lead CGIAR to deliver science and innovation for a food- and nutrition-secure future.

A great presentation today by @c_fadda on mainstreaming agrobiodiversity conservation and utilization in agricultural sector to ensure ecosystem services and reduce vulnerability @BiovIntCIAT_eng
@c_fadda@BiovIntCIAT_eng Farmers identified 26 varieties as higest potential and suitable for their various needs.
190 SHPGs and 15 farmers' producer organisations have been established. Seed exchange is ongoing through 32 community seed banks conserving over 3000 native varieties
@c_fadda@BiovIntCIAT_eng
The Seeds for Needs Initiative sought to provide smallholder seed systems with better information and access to a portfolio of adopted crops and varieties.
Over 200 native accessions of small millets, amaranth and buckwheat were tested.
@c_fadda@BiovIntCIAT_eng Millets are key in making production systems in Africa & Asia more resilient,nutritious; & improving farmers' livelihoods.
Seeds for needs is an efficient & effective way to screen and develop pre-breeding for millets considering climate change, market, farmers preference etc
🙌 Thank you to all the brilliant minds, speakers and participants who made this event a success! Let's continue working together for a more diverse food system in Africa. 🌿🌍

Just announced 📣 Our #Agrobiodiversity Index has been shortlisted by the @FoodPlanetPrize!
In the lead up to #BiodiversityDay, this recognition spotlights the natural wealth of plants, foods, and natural complexity that nourish people and the planet.

#Agroecology | A paper by the #Viability project claims that many African farmers already use #agroecological practices. This deliberately contentious observation runs counter to the common idea that agroecology is not viable for African farmers.
