Huge congratulations to @c_higgs_ for completing his PhD oration today! Brilliant summary of some excellent work. It's been a pleasure to supervise you over the years. Next up: thesis submission 👏
Welcoming our trainers from @UniMelb for the Pathogen Genomics and Bioinformatics workshop @ecohealthnut @sarahlbaines1@c_higgs_ @KristyHoran14. We look forward to a great learning experience. 👀✍️👩💻
Very excited to announce that our recent paper has been published in Nature Comms! - a 🧵https://t.co/f6CzpcNYgS

Our final talk in this #MicroSeq2022 session is from @c_higgs_ on invasive pneumococcal disease in Victoria. #AMR in Strep pneumo is a huge concern - large scale comparative genomics reveals most isolates still susceptible to beta-lactams, but some are multi-drug resistant
After a nice break in GatherTown, we are on to the next session of #MicroSeq2022! We have three speakers coming up: @rubaiyea, @JackieMahar and @c_higgs_ with a very exciting mix of topics, chaired by @ashporter_1 and @CuriousMolecule
Very happy to have my first paper published as part of my PhD, "Optimising genomic approaches for identifying VRE transmission in healthcare settings". Thanks to all involved for their help along the way.

@KelWyres @DrKatHolt For pairwise comparisons I used spades de novo reference assemblies and snippy to call variants. Also a newer k-mer based tool that is looking very promising called SKA (on github and bioRxiv).
