A mother, wife, teacher, eternal daydreamer, and lover of all things coffee. I prefer salty to sweet, dogs to cats, books to movies, and pizza to anything!
As we wrap up our last English class I find myself reflecting on my purpose and what drives me - it’s human connection. I’m so lucky to spend my days with amazing kids and my nights with their incredible, humble, hard-working, parents. ❤️ #findyourwhy#languagesarebridges
Who knew something as simple as color-creation with playdoh could produce such big smiles!? These two really stepped out of their shells today ❤️ #handsonlearning#newcomers#Englishisfun#lovemyjob @MVESEagles
It’s in our differences that we often discover our commonalities. These two don’t share a language but bond over a simple game of chess. Thanks Ms Brubaker for making Our newcomer’s transition a little easier! @MVESEagles
Language is memorable when it is meaningful. These kids elicited help from their peers, hand delivered donations, and bravely spoke with staff to help animals during the Christmas season. Watch out world! #MVESeagles
Q3 if we want to make learning meaningful, we should backward plan as such and surround give kids experiences they will or will need to encounter in the real world. Our planning should focus on authentic goals. Our practice and instruction should reflect that. #mvesfuturedriven
A2 I’m not especially comfortable with technology but reaching out to our ITRTers changed my world! My students are engaged and I feel more comfortable each day. Use your supports! #mvesfuturedriven
#mvesfuturedriven our own thinking, conflicting schedules... communication! Willingness to hear our peers’ ideas and experiences with specific kids in mind, learn from one another, work together for common goals.
Our last English class of the semester - our adult learners wanted to cook and we shared a meal together in celebration. #thisiscommuninity @MVESEagles
@diane_mackinnon@LKapuchuck @MVESEagles @diane_mackinnon when I hear them using the targeted vocab - either in discussion, with their peers, explaining their thinking, etc I give them tickets. Every Friday we draw a name for a prize of their choice. It’s been a great vocab reinforcement tool!
Want them to practice authentic English? Give them authentic experiences! These kids are so excited to connect with their high school digital pen pals each week. They’re communicating, building relationships and confidence, practicing English, and so much more! @MVESEagles
