@DrJesseMorse Arguably a high quality multivitamin with high-bioavailable forms of each component should be solidly #1 before anything else on this list.
@DrJesseMorse I find this list problematic. At the very least it should be rearranged. I would never add in any of these “anti-aging” supplement into my regiment before getting basic vitamin and minerals squared away. Mg, D3, K2, and C should all be higher on the list.
@zoeharcombe I understand the sentiment behind your post. But from an organic chemistry standpoint, listing out constituent atoms is more or less meaningless. I don’t find this comparison helpful.
@hubermanlab Are there any known connections between the increasing levels of infertility and the frequency of women who choose to use hormonal IUDs throughout their 20s?
I think we need to leave some wiggle room in the health & nutrition space for taking risks.
When preliminary, yet inconclusive evidence on a behavior/supplement emerges, we are faced with a choice:
A) Risk test the theory on ourselves.
Or
B) Wait for more conclusive data.
There seems to be a strong argument that maintaining muscle composition improves health-span.
And the combination of 1) having a steady source of proteins available throughout the day and 2) avoiding periods of fasting induced autophagy could help minimize muscle loss.
When you read the Nutrition Facts on the back of the box you’re seeing the total quantity present in the food (when completely decomposed as measured in a lab).
But you don’t get everything!
@scottzmuda@saraheeberry Not necessarily. For ultra processed food these Nutritional Fact could be very close to what your body absorbs. However, if raw/less processed then more nutrients will remained trapped within cell structures.
This was not meant to be a criticism of Nutrition Facts approach.
Listen to this podcast if your interested in hearing more. @saraheeberry shared about how her lab estimates that as much as 30% of the nutrients across a variety of nuts goes undigested.
And it sounds like they took a quite direct approach to getting these measurements…
