The Right to Clean Water Act (SB 601) passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee!
Thanks to all the Senators supporting California’s right to protect itself against water pollution especially after the Sacket v. EPA SCOTUS Decision ✅🤩🎉
The health of California streams and wetlands is more vulnerable than ever - it's time we act to protect these important parts of our water system. #SB601

Less than two years ago, the Supreme Court stripped the federal Clean Water Act of the many strong protections it offered to waters within California.
I introduced #SB601 to fill this void left by Sackett v EPA and protect access to clean water in California.
A court has ordered Sonoma County to ensure groundwater pumping doesn’t harm streams and fish. “Our biggest goal is to bring the watershed into balance.” @bothwell_ca https://t.co/60q8ofsw4D
#Sonoma court issues LANDMARK RULING to protect the #RussianRiver from excessive #groundwater pumping. The victory is a huge step toward keeping water flowing in the Russian River and rivers statewide. #cawater
A coalition of environmental groups are urging the state to act. @bothwell_ca: "It’s not just coming from global climate change. It’s also coming from our land-based sources of pollution. And we can address that." https://t.co/pQU6Tlzqlu @NRDC
Thrilled my legislation to advance protections for California's native salmon and the $500 million fishing industry that relies upon it has been approved in committee | @cah2oresearch@CA_Waterkeepers@CalRivers
“The @CaWaterBoards new conservation timelines are the lowest common denominator. Instead of crafting a reg that assists a few systems in need, the State Board lowered the bar for everyone, leaving California vulnerable,” - Cody Phillips, Staff Attorney https://t.co/NNwnPMJluN

Did you know that CA developed 1st regs in U.S. to address use of recycled water for agricultural irrigation in 1918? More recently, CA approved regs for use of recycled water for high-quality drinking #water. More info: https://t.co/vPJJcpPeR1
The Klamath River dam removal project-the largest river restoration project in American History-has begun! Project will restore aquatic ecosystems, improve the resilience of habitat, and mitigate the effects of ongoing drought in the Klamath Basin. More: https://t.co/mEPtn50hBa
State Water Board recently approved regs for turning wastewater to high-quality drinking #water. Called "direct potable reuse", the process enables water systems to generate climate-resilient water sources & reduce #wastewater discharged to rivers/ocean. https://t.co/vPJJcpPeR1
After a decade of advocacy, today California made a landmark decision to adopt the nation’s first comprehensive Direct Potable Reuse regulations. Now, all CA communities have the tools necessary to reuse all of their wastewater into drinking #cawater resources.
This past Saturday, our volunteers removed over 3,000 pounds of trash from the Santa Ana-Delhi channel! 🥳 This waterway leads directly into Upper Newport Bay, SoCal's largest remaining natural estuary, so it is imperative that debris gets removed before it can wash downstream.

Central Coast communities are suffering from polluted groundwater, and California is failing to act. Check out this explanation of the fight to stop the over-application of nitrogen fertilizers that pollute our drinking water, waterways, and coastline: https://t.co/xOCnyHL2JL.
Find out if domestic wells & small water systems near you are accessing #groundwater that does not meet primary drinking water standards. We have a map for that. Check out our Aquifer Risk Map: https://t.co/cJcDsvicvk
