Organized NYers backed @NYCMayor Mamdani to do the impossible: Close $12B gap left by Adams’s fiscal mismanagement & make historic investments in NYC’s tenant majority. We look fwd to the city’s housing plan, at a time when real estate has made windfalls from tenant suffering.
BREAKING—A Mayor committed to working class New Yorkers, partnered with robust movements, filled a $12 billion budget gap left behind by the previous administration.
Through @GovKathyHochul & @JulieMenin, finance capital has wielded the budget deficit to constrict our horizon for a w/c NYC—Albany must #TaxtheRich . We thank @NYCMayor for refusing to balance budgets on the backs of the w/c & standing with Movement to fight austerity cuts.

CAAAV is one of the 100+ orgs that called on City Council to hold the mayor’s veto of 175B, which suppresses the right to protest while the tide of fascism rises across the US. Very proud to have the support of local CMs like Harvey Epstein hearing the calls from our mvmt
We are still buzzing with excitement from last week's RGB meeting. But the work isn't over. We still need to organize to make it a reality. Join us! @nycDSA@caaav@CASAbronx@PSC_CUNY
New Dig ep is an interview with Fahd Ahmed and Alina Shen, leaders of DRUM and CAAAV—two brilliant organizers leading powerful basebuilding organizations—on how they organize, electing Zohran mayor, and struggling through the contradictions of governance. https://t.co/NJt25E1ie4
🗣️Tonight, hundreds of tenants gathered at the Rent Guidelines Board's preliminary vote to demand that they freeze our rent and make NYC a home to the working people who make this city run. And tonight, we saw that when we fight, we can win!
NYC sent the State $21B more than we got back, and now we face a $5.4B deficit. Hochul's refusal to fund our city will mean billions in forced cuts to our schools, sanitation, hospitals & more. #KathysCuts#TaxTheRich
Yesterday, while @GovKathyHochul met with billionaire CEO Ken Griffin, we showed up on her doorstep with hundreds of the working-class New Yorkers she SHOULD be listening to.
Is Hochul going to be a governor for the CEO class or the working class?
Tax the rich, Kathy.
At a time of increasing repression and restriction of free speech and protest activity across the country, we at @DesisRisingUp are heartened to stand with the @NYCMayor in the veto of 175b.
In an effort to soften the initial blatant absurdities, the promoters of the bill have produced bizarre contortions in it.
If a protest-related bill has to make an exception for labor, it means it impedes free speech. The labor exception also excludes the vast majority of immigrant workers, who make up the most highly exploited and vulnerable workers in the city, who are not covered by NLRA.
Students engaging in historically cherished activism in their schools and campuses, and parents advocating for themselves or their children will face expansion of police interaction that will inevitably lead to chilling of political activity if not outright police abuse and brutality for communities of color.
This bill will further intensify risks for all of them.
We expect all of our council members to ensure that NYC is at the forefront of protecting free speech by rejecting a veto override.
Last month, the City Council passed two bills related to the constitutional right to protest — one for houses of worship, and one for educational institutions.
Today, I’m letting one bill go into effect, and vetoing the other. I’d like to take a moment to explain why.
As Mayor, I will always make sure the right to protest, prayer and protection are guaranteed for every New Yorker.
VICTORY! We applaud @NYCMayor for vetoing Intro 175B & standing for free speech rights & safety. 100+ orgs & unions & thousands of NYers made it clear: yes to our rights & #NoTo175B. Let's keep pressure up! @NYCCouncil must vote NO & sustain veto. Act now: https://t.co/1i6e1llZtR
THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED: Over 100 labor, immigration, and community organizations united today to secure this veto. But the fight isn’t over—now, City Council must sustain the veto.
Today, @NYCMayor stands with working people by vetoing 175B, the Buffer Zone Bill. This bill would greenlight NYPD expansion to every building in this city and suppress protest in the name of “public safety.”

Menin’s Buffer Zone Bill is part of the wave of crackdowns on the Left: Trump’s retaliation on cities that have united against ICE deportation; the recent “MAMDANI Act”, a bill introduced by GOP lawmakers in Texas to denaturalize and deport “advocates" of socialism
