@reacksonfitness @pwharris Yeah, I don’t know about “like” but that’s what they’re comfortable with. Traditional is what they get in just about every other class, it’s what they feel being a student is supposed to look like as they get older.

@mr_davis_math @mpershan Their label for themselves holds them back, and I do what I can to remove that cuz it’s harmful. The label I use is just to organize in my head those students who need extra support.

@GiftedTawk We have a weekly staff mtg for about 30 mins on our minimum days. Could the info be in an email? Sure, but I probably wouldn’t read it. And I like to talk to people from other departments that I only see there.

@tombennett71 Agreed. While restorative justice is needed, true restoration takes time, time that the teacher doesn’t have, time that the students could be using for learning. Incorporating both successfully would require a total change to how a classroom works or half the class size.

Thanks for the resource on research; I’m new to teaching, and when I joined it became immediately apparent how so many popular and “respected” notions are at odds with one another.

@MrsSheehanMath I don’t use the formulas for IM2 cuz the concepts are really the important thing there, but I would if I taught AP Stats. The formula for combinations could show up again in IM3 when working with polynomials of higher degrees or Pascal’s triangle.
