Soon must come the day
When the righteous have their way
Unjustly tried are free
And people live in peace I say
Give the man release
Go on and set your conscience free
Right the wrongs you made
Even a fool can have his day
Let us all be free free free free...

The way that Tracy Chapman's lyrics are still so relevant/powerful today (a thread)
Across the lines
Who would dare to go
Under the bridge
Over the tracks
That separates whites from blacks
Choose sides
Run for your life
Tonight the riots begin
On the back streets of America
But every day is born a man
Who hates what he can't understand
Who thinks the answer is to kill
Who thinks his actions are god's will
And he thinks he's free free free free
Yes he thinks he's free free free free
He thinks he's free free free free
Soooo I asked hubby to grab me a Coke for our car trip tonight while he made a pitstop at the grocery store for some supplies because it helps with my motion sickness and this is what he came back with. A whole ass 2 liter bottle of Coke. ๐๐
His logic is that it costs the same as a smaller bottle, which ok, he's got a good point there. But also I now have to attempt to drink from a giant vat of Coke while moving at high speeds down the highway. He also hates soda with a passion so this was also his way of trolling me
Normalize buying books for your white kids that donโt have white characters. Itโs not just books about race that should have POC MCs. Sharing books, unicorn books, princess books, family books, joy booksโif your kid sees equal rep there, theyโll expect to see equal rep in life.
Really struggling with this right now. I miss writing and being creative but I do feel guilty thinking about doing anything I enjoy when people in my country are literally crying out for help and I feel like I'm not doing enough.
I donโt know who needs to hear this, but if you have hobbies, interests, or pastimes that donโt revolve around the very important work of fighting for social justice you do not need to feel guilty about taking time out for yourself to still enjoy them.
I feel this in my bones. It's been several weeks now that all the constant negativity on Twitter has really been getting to me and I've been distancing myself from this space long before now to take care of my mental health. That doesn't mean my heart isn't hurting or I'm not -
does not mean they don't car about an issue or are apathetic.
Now more than ever we all need to show each other a little kindness and understanding. (4/4)
If you want to tweet about current events as a way to process/cope with all the terrible things happening right now and/or use Twitter as platform that's perfectly fine and valid.
What is not okay is trying to shame and/or attack people who are choosing not to do so. (1/4)
People may choose not to participate in Twitter activism for a variety of reasons. And it's not fair to judge someone based on that alone. Just because someone doesn't take a screen shot of the donations they've made to an organization and share w/their followers or use a hashtag
