@aking_dididindu Instead of dawn's typical symbolism, it shows the repetition & monotony of life in "Aubade". People must move on, day after day, bc "work has to be done" & they must survive. The fear of death is what keeps them on their feet, afraid of stalling & being caught by it. #laylit20

I feel like typically people use the word "euphoria" to describe an out of body feeling of intense happiness that isn't always positive, which is exactly what the euphio is doing. Non-induced happiness is more of a warm, comforting feeling rather than an INTENSE one. #laylit20

Although Vonnegut writes Billy as being a savior of sorts, I find it hard to support him. He rapes women under the guise of "restoring innocent pleasure" & then clutches onto the role of the victim afterwards, sniffling & crying while telling them to be grateful. #laylit20

@litwithlayton I think it’s a way for the gov’t to entice people to commit suicide. Their daily lives are bland, grey, & repetitive so the idea of these beautiful women dressed in skintight purple suits and the mystery of death can be extremely alluring and new #laylit20

The dialogue is extremely effective. I usually don't like dialogue-heavy writing like this but in this case, it is natural, meaningful, and emotional. You can tell exactly how they feel for each other by their words & small nuances. Vonnegut did a great job with it. #laylit20

@litwithlayton I like how Vonnegut doesn't play into toxic masculinity. Instead, he makes N a soldier who's capable of gentle emotion & genuine love. C's w another man, but N doesn't force her to choose him & reject her fiance. He simply wants to let her know that he loves her. #laylit20

(2) In this completely equal society, people are stifled if they are deemed too bright or beautiful and are reduced to an “average” state. Yes, it is equal, but is this complete equality just? How far should society go in order for people to be equal? #laylit20

(1) An interesting take on equality. Especially in this day & age where inequality is so seen and felt, people are looking for an equal society. However, Vonnegut’s saying that this is easier said than done by writing about COMPLETE equality in the “truest sense”. #laylit20

@litwithlayton Nothing's as simple as right or wrong. F may have thought she did the right thing by avoiding A after his case, but it ends in his death. F also thinks she does the right thing by staying mad at J, but in reality, the situation is much more complicated than that #laylit20

@litwithlayton Welfare is hard to define. At first, F thinks that she does everything she needs to in order to maintain A's welfare, but when she finds out about his death, she comes to the realization that it's so much more than just ensuring his life. It's everything after, too #laylit20

@LKoncsol I think she should feel guilty. If she at all wants to mend their relationship, they need to start trusting each other and communicating. If F keeps keeping things from J, their relationship will eventually be unmendable imo #laylit20

@litwithlayton It highlights the innate flaws within the justice system. For Gallagher, although there’s evidence that the sex was consensual, he is still convicted of rape bc they had “targets to meet.” He isn’t given a fair chance & is innocent, but his innocence is ignored #laylit20

@litwithlayton I also think it happens bc both A & F are at fragile stages in their lives. A was saved from death & is questioning his entire life. F is having marital issues & is struggling with her childlessness. People tend to act out in order to recover a sense of control #laylit20

@litwithlayton ME. There was weird tension bw A and F, and F kept noting A's physical features like his slender figure, full lips, & even calls him beautiful. I think since A is giving sm attention to her, F begins to like it & even crave it. Everyone wants to feel wanted. #laylit20

@litwithlayton Maybe a lil, but not much. F even points out their many differences from his 1st letter. I think she more-so sees him as the son she could've had & very much wanted. He's gifted, bright, & has a childlike innocence & wonder that Fiona adores & longed for in her own kid #laylit20
