I’m from Ukraine.
I live every day in a war I didn’t choose.
I carry grief, fear, and exhaustion.
But I also carry hope, love
And the refusal to fall.
This is my country.
This is my fight.
Kramatorsk is living through hell right now.
russians just dropped a KAB on a residential building.
russia is killing civilians, destroying homes, and tearing Ukrainian cities apart.
The world must not normalize terror on this scale.
Horrific
Meanwhile, the president of the United States has spent the last few weeks attacking Ukraine and urging it to stop attacking Russian refineries.
Jeszcze nie tak dawno byliśmy z przedstawicielami mojego Instytutu zarówno w Ukraińskiej Akademii Nauk, jak i Agrarnej Akademii Nauk... Trudno się na to patrzy...
"No one leaves here alive. So please stop treating yourself as an afterthought. Eat delicious food. Walk in the sun. Jump into the sea. Speak the truth that you carry in your heart like a hidden treasure. Be silly. Be good. Be weird. There is no time for anything else. - Anthony Hopkins
In 1962, while filming Cleopatra, Elizabeth Taylor found a nine-month-old German girl named Maria. The child was malnourished, covered in abscesses, and born with a hip so damaged doctors thought she might never walk. Officials wanted Taylor to take a “perfect” baby. She fought for this one.
Taylor said she held her, bathed her, and stayed with her for days until the withdrawn infant finally giggled—and then cried for a bottle. “To me she was perfect.”
The adoption started while Taylor was still married to Eddie Fisher. After that marriage ended, Richard Burton became Maria’s adoptive father. She became Maria Elizabeth Burton.
The hip still needed years of care: casts, travel to doctors in Germany, Italy, and France, then surgery at Oxford to place a plate. She learned to walk. Then to run.
Burton wrote about her in his diaries as a daughter, not a headline: sitting with him, climbing onto his lap, telling him she loved him and wanted to stay with him.
Maria grew up, built her own life, and became a mother.
Taylor won Oscars and wore famous diamonds. This was quieter. A sick child in a laundry basket. A woman who refused the easier choice. A girl who got to be someone’s daughter. ❤️🌹
