@JeannotShowYo@jonbecker_ The team doesn’t need a dime from Walter. They bring in a billion dollars a year due to having the biggest stadium by far, most marketable player by far, and biggest tv contract by far. They still turn a hefty profit despite what they spend on players (unlike Cohen and the Mets)
@ASSMAN_PTGD@jonbecker_ The luxury tax threshold has risen far slower than both league revenues and economy-wide inflation. Why shouldn’t it be substantially higher?
@jonbecker_ Virtually all research on the subject concludes cap/floor does nothing for parity once you account for the revenue sharing scheme. Revenue sharing is the actual key to parity, the only thing a cap does is juice franchise values by standardizing team expenses
@campanamike Innerspeaker and Lonerism are two of the best and most innovative rock albums of the 21st century. I liked Currents well enough but was troubled by what it portended, and unfortunately he went the exact direction I feared he would.
According to our friends at the Elias Sports Bureau, Max Fried could become the first player ever to lose an elimination playoff game and miss the birth of his first born child on the same night.
@ZackScottSports Can you go into more detail on how the signing came together? The Pedro phone calls have become a pretty well established part of Red Sox lore, I’m curious what the front office perspective was at the time
@Colinhuban35@MarcosMimch269@ChrisCoop_@Razorfin_Hunter The Red Sox have gone 140-112 since the Devers trade, good for a 90 win pace over 162. The org hasn’t been perfect and the team still has weaknesses, but I don’t think there’s really any argument that the team isn’t better than it was on June 15, 2025
@redsoxstats Velo was down several ticks compared to last week, didn’t hit 100 once and was mostly 96-97 after the second. Probably some fatigue at play and at this point it’s clear he gets especially amped pitching against the Sox
@MassJumbo Still got nothing on Kennebec County. I bet precious few Londoners have looked at the Colby library from the Waterville Walmart parking lot!
@evanwch It is ironic that you correctly identified that midwit losers having too much sway has been a major problem in liberal and progressive politics, but have failed to recognize that you yourself are one of said midwit losers
@sunshinevvn Not sure if I’m a lunatic or well-adjusted, but I have genuinely never experienced this. When the Pats and Sox get eliminated, I think “we’ll get em next year” and immediately jump to how the team can get better. I think the 2012-2013 Red Sox filled me with eternal optimism.
@MassJumbo wealthy people might gamble but they’re definitely not going to Everett for it lol, a trip to the casino is a reason for getting out of town (also hello from a fellow kennebec countian)
@FitzyMoPena It looked like they started the TV clock a tick early, but based on the tv clock it’s not even close. I don’t really see any reason to think this is inaccurate. Absolutely ridiculous call and further proof that college sports is one of the biggest rackets in the world right now
