On the evening of Tuesday, 30 September, a strong earthquake struck the central region of the Philippines, particularly the province of Cebu and its neighboring provinces. I express my closeness to the dear Filipino people, and in particular I pray for those who are most severely affected by the consequences of the earthquake. Faced with any danger, let us remain united and supportive in our trust in God and in the intercession of our Blessed Mother.

Sa gitna ng walang tigil na pagpuna ng bawat galaw natin, balikan natin ang simula ng ating adbokasiya sa agrikultura, pagpapababa ng presyo ng bigas, at pakikipagtulungan at pakikisalo sa mga magsasaka.

Maraming nakatutok sa ating mga kamay— ang mga kamay na hindi kailanman nabahiran ng anumang anomalya na ginagamit natin para kumain kasalo ang iba’t ibang taong nakasalamuha natin sa loob ng higit sampung taon, ang mga kamay na natutong magbungkal ng lupa para lubos maunawaan ang pinagdadaanan ng ating mga magsasaka, ang mga kamay na hindi tumitigil maghanap ng solusyon sa ating problema ng gutom.

Patuloy ang mga paninira gamit ang mga bagay na tila hindi dapat issue sa gitna ng matitinding problemang kinakaharap ng bansa. Dalawa lang ang pwedeng pagpilian: maging parte ng problema o maging bahagi ng solusyon. Alin po ang pipiliin natin?
