This is a direct assault on God’s Word and on the family. Discipline is a gracious act done by parents in love for their children and God, never in anger or simply to control behavior.

Look into how they “diagnosed” her with those issues. Hint: there is no medical testing (blood draw, scan, etc.) and no root cause identified (cancer, high levels of X hormone). Why? Because you can’t test for biological markers that confirm these diagnoses. You can not definitively test for seratonin. A diagnosis is based on observed or self-reported symptoms that are grouped, given a name, and voted on by a board. This is not science. These are matters of the immaterial soul.

Even more alarming is that they are prescribed without any testing—nor can they be. There is no way to definitively measure the serotonin in one’s body. The DSM only uses a questionnaire of symptoms (vague and self-reported usually by the patient) to diagnose depression. No root cause is identified like you would do for cancer, arteriosclerosis, etc. This is not science, because this is an issue with this woman’s soul. Millions of people are being deceived and drugged to divert them away from Christ.

I'm incredibly grateful for this work. It has deepened my thinking on Biblical counseling. We should know our roots and hold them up to Scripture.

Even if people disagree with presuppositional apologetics, the heavy influence of Van Til on Jay Adams certainly does not provide an excuse to import psychological frameworks. Even on classical grounds, the common diagnostic method of psychology is irrational: a cluster of symptoms is named, then the name is treated as the explanation. Biblical counselors take observable suffering seriously. But, psychology fails to provide an empirically verifiable root cause, and therapies fail to provide the lasting relief found only in Christ for problems related to the immaterial mind. Be it a presuppositional or classical apologetic, importing a psychological framework into Biblical counseling is to adopt a school of thought that cannot rationally carry its own weight, and that brings a flawed theology and anthropology that leads away from Christ.

This is a refining work by Dr. Poulton, and again, I appreciate how he has looked more deeply into the Biblical counseling discipline. I'm looking forward to reading this book.
