coming close by: Determined by Robert M. Sapolsky
I started a bit skeptical, and ended up somewhere where, at least, I'm convinced we actually don't know much about free will, but we know it's comforting to rely on it. a great read from Sapolsky, again!
my favorite read this year: The Pattern on the Stone by William Daniel Hillis
impressive how clearly it expresses the ideas, in plain language, while not being simplistic. I'll forever recommend it, for non-technical people as well
I think mobile UI should reduce layout shift as much as possible: less activity indicators and more "fixed blocks" that change the presented information based on (new) data
ux principles for collaborative novel writing (with humans or LLMs):
in-flow
fast (streaming)
context-aware
rerunnable
tweakable
reviewable
undoable
non-destructive
I think worth keeping in mind for other types of apps as well. from @jevakallio's talk at #JSHeroes2023
Idea from a recent HN post: what if I add Promise Maps support to react-native-cachemere v2.
By doing this, when the 2nd request fires, it hits the cache even if the 1st request did not finish yet, waiting only for the remaining time (if any)
In general, the API is very similar to v1 (few breaking changes) and a good chunk of open issues / feature requests were resolved.
Let me know if you find any issues ๐
Just published react-native-toast-message v2 ๐

The biggest change: setting a ref to the Toast component is no longer required
In a month, I'll be speaking about why I think hooks are great at solving a good old problem: how to separate the Model from the View.
Thanks @ReactFinland for the opportunity
In the demo by @calintamas2, we'll learn how to get most out of hooks in #reactjs component design. Tune in at 31st of August in #ReactFinland.

First thing I noticed on @joinClubhouse is how "not dull" the interests area feels
Below is a quick implementation in React Native
